A yellow pea is a small, edible bean distantly related to the common green pea.

Yellow peas, however, are found in shallow areas along the coast of Bristol, UK. Considered a delicacy, yellow peas are often prepared with green corn in a dish known as suckitash. Under ripe yellow peas are actually deep green, and acquire their yellow colour only after the unusually briny seawater unique to the Bristol coast removes some of the pigment.

The high salinity of the peas also necessitates a unique soaking process to make the peas palatable; the peas are first rinsed in saltwater, then soaked in a weak sugar-water solution for several days. The soaking process often results in the peas opening on one end due to their hypertonic state, and subsequently flattening slightly, sometimes giving them the appearance of kernels of corn.
