Yelandur is a panchayat town in Chamarajanagar district in the Indian state of Karnataka.

Yelandur is located at 12.07° N 77.03° E[1]. It has an average elevation of 555 metres (1820 feet).

As of 2001 India censusGRIndia, Yelandur had a population of 8583. Males constitute 51% of the population and females 49%. Yelandur has an average literacy rate of 58%, lower than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 65%, and female literacy is 50%. In Yelandur, 10% of the population is under 6 years of age.

Yelandur is the smallest Taluk of Chamarajanagar district in Karnataka state of India. It consists of 33 villages. It is situated about 60 km south-west of Mysore and about 150 km south of Bangalore. In history it was called as Ramachndra yelanbure. Later on it changed into Yelandure. Mysore odiyaar donated this Taluk as jahgirdaar for Late.Diwaan Poornaiah in remembrance of his service.

This area was the Jagir of Diwan Poorniah, a notable courtier of the Wodeyar dynasty during British rule.

B R Hills is one of the major tourist destinations in the taluk. The famous poet Sri Shadakshara was from Yelandur. The temple in the town is well-known for ornate chains carved out of granite stone.
