Yehudi Wyner

Yehudi Wyner is an American composer, pianist, conductor, and music educator. Although Wyner was born in Calgary in 1929, he was raised in New York City. He grew up in a musical family led by his father, Lazar Weiner, the preeminent composer of Yiddish art songs. Wyner himself has written in a variety of genres, including compositions for orchestra, chamber ensembles, solo voice, and solo instruments, as well as theatrical music and settings of the Jewish liturgy for worship. Among his best-known works are the Friday Evening Service (1963) for cantor and chorus, and On This Most Voluptuous Night (1982) for soprano and chamber ensemble.

Wyner taught for fourteen years at Yale University, where he was head of the Composition faculty. He also taught at SUNY Purchase, Cornell University, Brandeis University and Harvard University.

Yehudi Wyner is the 2006 recipient of the Pulitzer Prize for Music for his Piano Concerto: 'Chiavi in Mano'. [1] [2]
