Year of a Million Dreams
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Year of a Million Dreams is a celebration taking place at the theme parks of the Disneyland Resort in California and the Walt Disney World Resort in Florida from October 1, 2006 through December 31, 2007. The festivities are part of a global branding campaign created by Walt Disney Parks and Resorts called Where Dreams Come True.
During the 15-month event, resort guests who visit the theme parks or Downtown Disney from opening until 5 p.m. and those who mail in a postcard have a chance to win random prizes including nighttime stays inside a newly created suite inside Cinderella Castle at the Magic Kingdom theme park and a Mickey Mouse-themed penthouse suite at the Disneyland Hotel. Low-level prizes awarded on a daily basis will be special Mickey Mouse ears, "Dream" FASTPASS lanyards good for one use of the FASTPASS queue per attraction that day, pin-trading lanyards that come with two pins, and either after-hour events at Walt Disney World Resort or a free photo at the Disneyland Resort. Out of the 1,250,000 prizes, 60 are vacation-related rewards worth more $5,000 each, 1,186 are mid-level prizes worth $160 to $587 each, and the rest (over 99.9%) are the low-level prizes mentioned above.
For the celebration's kickoff, a sweepstakes-winning family from Randolph, Ohio — Raymond, Tammy, Derick and Ashley Spangler — enjoyed "exclusive" use of the Magic Kingdom before it opened to guests on October 4, 2006.
