"Year 3000" was a single by British pop group Busted released in 2003. It was covered by American pop rock group Jonas Brothers in 2006. Before this, Year 3000 was a completely unrelated track on the 1996 album Dr. Octagonecologyst by Kool Keith using the alias Dr. Octagon.
[edit] Comparison of two versions
The Jonas Brothers adapted the lyrics in a number of ways, notably by reducing the sexual references. They also changed the name of the superstar that was outsold, which could also be construed as a sexual reference. Take for example the verses:
Busted: I took a trip to the year 3000
this song had gone multi-platinum
everybody bought our seventh album
it had outsold Michael Jackson
I took a trip to the year 3000
this song had gone multi-platinum
everybody bought our seventh album
The Jonas Brothers: I took a trip to the year 3000
this song had gone multi-platinum
everybody bought our seventh album
it had outsold Kelly Clarkson
I took a trip to the year 3000
this song had gone multi-platinum
everybody bought our seventh album
And
Busted: He took me to the future in the flux thing
And I saw everything
Boy bands, and another one, and another one
And another one
Triple breasted women swim around town
Totally naked
The Jonas Brothers: He took me to the future in the flux thing
And I saw everything
Boy bands, and another one, and another one
And another one
Girls there with round hair like Star Wars
That float above the floor
And the chorus
Busted: I've been to the year 3000
Not much has changed, but they lived underwater
And your great-great-great granddaughter
Is pretty fine
The Jonas Brothers: I've been to the year 3000
Not much has changed, but they lived underwater
And your great-great-great granddaughter
Is doing fine
[edit] Back To The Future
In the song, it makes some references to the movie Back to the Future and its sequels. Some lines include:
- He took me to the future in the flux thing.
- We drove around in a time machine, like the one in a film i've seen.
- He told me he built a time machine, like the one in a film i've seen.
