[edit] Fair use
We've been over this before, Chowbok. The likelihood of being able to obtain a free picture of Yasui is extremely low or completely unlikely due to the laws in Japan. Unless you can provide a free replacement, or prove that one is actually obtainable, then please stop marking these images. ···日本穣? · Talk to Nihonjoe 06:34, 23 November 2006 (UTC)
- Our fair use policy forbids using a non-free image if a free image could be created that could be used in its place. See criterion #1 and counter-example #8. In this case, it would be possible to create a free image; therefore this non-free image may not be used. Whether a free replacement image exists or not at this time is not relevant. – Quadell (talk) (random) 18:06, 28 November 2006 (UTC)

- Yes, and that's a patently absurd policy. Forbidding a fair use image just because there may be an extremely tiny possibility that a free image could, maybe, by some odd chance exist. Hell, that excludes any possibility of having images for any living person, period. We're here to make a good encyclopedia (preferably free, too, but that is not always possible), and excluding the use of any fair use images for any living person is complete lunacy. ···日本穣? · Talk to Nihonjoe 02:55, 29 November 2006 (UTC)
- It's actually the other way around. We're here to make a free encyclopedia, preferably good, too. —Chowbok ☠ 03:32, 29 November 2006 (UTC)
- Chowbok, we've been there before really. Maybe you should reconsider your opinions after the RfC... -- Grafikm (AutoGRAF) 21:01, 29 November 2006 (UTC)

Please point out the policy page, preferably not modified with the last two months or so in this respect, that would state that the being good, for the encyclopedia we are writing is secondary. --Irpen 04:02, 29 November 2006 (UTC)

- It does say "Wikipedia - The Free Encyclopedia" in the upper left corner. There's also an article on the subject: free content.

- As for the image it only serves to illustrate what the person looks like, therefore it could be replaced by any other image depicting the person. Also the Japanese version (ja:安井邦彦) does not have any image at all.

If another ecnyclopedia deprived the readers of the content, it is not a valind example for us to follow. An elaborate Faiuse rationale is given. It is believed in good faith that it justify the image. If you disagree, discuss the merits of the rationale and not your general view about what you like the encyclopedia to be. As long as FU images are allowed, each has to be judged on its own merit. As for your particular issue about hypothetical free image, it has been addressed in the rationale. --Irpen 15:05, 29 November 2006 (UTC)
