Yaqub Sanu

Yaqub Sanu (1839-1912) was an Italian-born Jew who became an Egyptian nationalist journalist and writer.

Matti Moosa, writing in the The Origins of Modern Arabic Fiction, credited him with establishing the genre of drama in modern Arabic. He wrote satirical plays in colloquial Arabic that mocked the elite and the khedive.
