Yangon General Hospital

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Yangon General Hospital (Burmese: ရန္‌ကုန္‌ပ္ရည္‌သူဆေးရုံက္ရီး; formerly known as the Rangoon General Hospital), built in 1911 is a major hospital located in Yangon. It is particularly known for its Victorian-style architecture (although dilapidated), which consists of red brick and yellow-painted trimmings. The building was a major massacre site during the 8888 Uprising, in which many injured patients were killed by the Tatmadaw. The hospital is effectively closed to foreigners and tourists. The hospital was also the site of Aung San Suu Kyi's first public speech, on 24 August 1988.
