Yamaha Blaster

This is about the ATV. For the personal watercraft, see Yamaha Wave Blaster.

The Yamaha Blaster is an all-terrain vehicle that was intended for beginner level riders and is priced to be affordable. Usually around $3,000 US Dollars, 5200 Canadian. It was first released in 1988 where it remained in production until 2006 which is its last year due to it not meeting the EPA's emission standards. The Yamaha Blaster uses a 2 stroke engine which mixes oil into the gasoline as its being burned for fuel except that unlike some other 2 stroke motors,it has an oil injection system. These engines produce mild amounts of smoke and therefore are being heavily regulated. Most newer ATV's are 4-stroke, which are more like regular gasoline engines with separate lubrication and fueling systems. The only downsize to a 4-cycle engine on an ATV is that it takes nearly 2x the cc's to produce the same power as a 2-stroke. This greatly increases weight and therefore relates to more fuel consumption.

During its lifespan, Yamaha only made minor changes to the "Blaster" in 2003 where the front drum brakes were converted to hydraulic disk brakes and the rear brake was converted from a cable disk brake to hydraulic as well and it also received a new nose piece giving it a sportier look. It has a 195cc 2-stroke motor with a 6 speed gear box and a dry weight of 224 pounds.

This is known as the most available bike for "pop up" performance parts due to its cheap new price.A Vitos ported block adds 40 hp and there are many parts to make this into a racing machine.Stock it should go about 110km which is relatively slow but with parts will fly.The only downside is the terrible tires and rims for racing, trail riding and jumps. It does not have oil reservoir on the shocks and shocks must be upgraded for jumps. It does tho have a snappy little motor being able to pull wheelies. It is snappier then any other sport bike on the market. The blaster is the little brother to the banshee Engine Type 195cc, 2-Stroke Single, Air Cooled, Reed Valve
