Yakov Kronrod is a Russian mathematician and computer scientist currently residing in the United States. He currently works as a software engineer at Sun Microsystems in Burlington, Massachusetts. Yakov was born to Vladimir Kronrod and Tatyana Lavut on March 7, 1981. He immigrated to the United States from the Soviet Union in 1989. In 1997, Yakov was selected as a cultural ambassador to Heredia, Costa Rica. Yakov came to Worcester, Ma in 1998 to study Mathematics at Worcester Polytechnic Institute. In 2001, Yakov Kronrod was selected for the prestigious Goldwater Scholarship. He was only the second person in WPI history to receive such an honor. In 2003, Yakov Kronrod was a City Council candidate in Worcester, Ma. Academically, he has presented original research at international mathematics conferences accross the United States. He is currently on the board of directors of EPOCA, a non-profit agency in Central Massachusetts working for community advancement through grassroots organizing. Yakov also sits on the Greek Alumni Council for Worcester Polytechnic Institute. At Sun Microsystems, Yakov helps lead the development effor for the Automation, Verification, and Test team, part of the Data Management Group.
