Yahoo! Avatars is a public Yahoo!, Inc. service to display personalized character images, called "avatars."
Yahoo! Avatars are personality images, available for websites HTML display, in profiles (Yahoo! 360°) and in Yahoo! Messenger chat.

Yahoo! Avatars US (and UK) is a promotional service, available for every account. The avatar image can be displayed automatically in the instant messenger window, into the 360° member page, and into group member listings. It is possible to choose a mood from a varition of five different moods. Avatars were originally introduced for display within the Yahoo! instant messenger window.

The online editor requires Macromedia Flash. It works by choosing shape and color of skin, hair and eyes. Clothing items and accessories even include name brands like Adidas. The items are displayed in a tab-style library. The editor includes functions to save favorite avatars, to export JPG/PNG image, and to generate HTML code (for display within own websites). In 2006, Yahoo! increased the number of items and backgrounds.
