XWinLogon

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

XWinLogon is an interface to the Cygwin/X Server (The graphical interface of an X Window System) to allow the user to easily connect to a Unix/Linux box from Windows computer. The XWinLogon system is free and stable.

XWinLogon has a windows installer that makes installation easy. This installer copies the required packages of Cygwin and the frontend window that can be used to easily start an X session on a remote computer.

[edit] Trick

Using the frontend window the user has limited control over the X server parameters. The Save session button on the frontend creates a batch file that starts the session. This batch file can be edited to add X server parameters that are not reachable from the GUI. To find applicable parameters see Cygwin/X documentation.

  • Example: On the "start XWin_GL.exe ..." line add the -scrollbars parameter to let the X server window be resizable.

[edit] Known Issue

  • A known problem with XWinLogon is that it conflicts with an existing Cygwin installation.
