[edit] Security holes in Xpdf?
It was my understanding (from asking Evince developers) that poppler forked/branched from Xpdf without acrimony because the developers had different goals and the XPdf developer had little interest in maintaining a generic library. That is not to say there weren't any security holes in Xpdf but where is the proof that was a signficant motivating factor. In any case shouldn't that information be in the Poppler article? The spec file from Poppler goes into more detail and better reuse of code is cited. Although security issues are mentioned it does not seem like they were a primary motivation compared to better software engineering. http://src.opensolaris.org/source/xref/jds/spec-files/trunk/poppler.spec
