[edit] Deleted images

Thanks for your message, and Happy New Year! Unfortunately you didn't mention which images you were referring to, or which articles (if any) they were taken from, and I've been clearing a large number of backlogged images from the Category:Uploader unsure of copyright status category. Images with an unconfirmed copyright status should only be left on Wikipedia for up to seven days in order to allow the uploader to verify copyright status. After that, if the uploader (or anyone else) hasn't tagged it with the relevant copyright status, an image qualifies for speedy deletion. (See Wikipedia:Criteria for speedy deletion.) [edit] Image copyright problem with Image:Chaconshow.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Chaconshow.jpg. However, the image may soon be deleted unless we can determine the copyright holder and copyright status. The Wikimedia Foundation is very careful about the images included in Wikipedia because of copyright law (see Wikipedia's Copyright policy).

The copyright holder is usually the creator, the creator's employer, or the last person who was transferred ownership rights. Copyright information on images on Wikipedia is signified using copyright templates. The three basic license types on Wikipedia are open content, public domain, and fair use. Find the appropriate template in Wikipedia:Image copyright tags and place it on the image page like this: {{TemplateName}}.

Please signify the copyright information on any other images you have uploaded or will upload. Remember that images without this important information can be deleted by an administrator. [edit] Image Tagging Image:547319941.jpg

Warning sign
This media may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading Image:547319941.jpg. I notice the 'image' page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is therefore unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the media on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then you can use {{GFDL}} to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media qualifies as fair use, please read fair use, and then use a tag such as {{fairusein|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other media, please check that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. How do I tag pictures correctly? Please help!

[edit] Tagging images

XLR8TION, how you doing? I've seen that you've made some edits to my articles (I've written over 330 bios). You've done a good job. When you upload an image first you post the source. Make sure it is a public domain source, in other words that the page is not copyrighted. Then place the source in the summary box. Under the summary box there is a section (space) which you can scrow down and pick the proper Public Domain Tag. I hope that this can be of help. Tony the Marine 06:08, 16 February 2006 (UTC)

Tony how do I get in contact with you? I have a question regarding your personal Wikipedia page. I would like to create one. How do I do so?

Your username was not blocked, however you were probably affected by an "autoblock" placed on another user. This is especially a problem with AOL addresses, due to the way AOL allocates IP addresses. -- Curps 05:02, 28 February 2006 (UTC)

Hello XLR8TION. Please note that you were not blocked, the IP address 128.122.190.175 was autoblocked because you share the same network as someone (User:QEBOY) who was responsible for a rash of libel and vandalism a few days ago. [edit] 3RR

Please familiarize yourself with Wikipedia's three revert rule. You have made three reverts today to Quentin Elias. Please discuss your changes on the article's talk page. Thank you. --jpgordon∇∆∇∆ 04:38, 14 April 2006 (UTC)

You have been temporarily blocked for violation of the three-revert rule. Please feel free to return after the block expires, but also please make an effort to discuss your changes further in the future. --jpgordon∇∆∇∆ 05:22, 14 April 2006 (UTC)

  • You were warned and you reverted again anyway. You edit warred rather than discussing the article on the relevant talk pages. That's what WP:3RR is designed to prevent. Once the block has expired, feel free to go to talk pages and present your case for your changes. I've paid no attention to the content of the your changes, by the way, and neither know nor care whether they are accurate or appropriate. If User:Michael Snow had reverted your change once more, I'd have blocked him as well, for exactly the same reason. Please note that you can still edit your talk page while you are blocked, so if you wish to argue the point, do so here rather than sending me email. Thank you. --jpgordon∇∆∇∆ 05:34, 14 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] No Original Research

Hello. To make your time on Wikipedia more pleasurable and productive, I suggest that you read three core policies carefully.

Multiple editors reverted your edits to Quentin Elias and Junior Vasquez because your own description told us that your edit constituted original research and did not meet Wikipedia standards for verifiability and reliability under these policies. All statements in Wikipedia must be traceable to a reliable source. It is often hard for editors to understand what we mean here by verifiability, reliability and original research. Let me try to explain briefly:

  • Primary sources are original documents, claims about someone by an involved party, and so on.
  • Secondary sources are published papers, books and articles in reputable newspapers and magazines. Someplace that employs multiple sets of eyes (editors, fact-checkers, peer review, and so on) and has a reputation to protect.
  • Tertiary sources are encyclopedias, Wikipedia itself, unpublished undergraduate papers, etc.

You might think that primary sources (like his own website) are the most reliable. That is often not the case. Many people (like performers or their agents) deliberately or unconsciously distort facts to gain an advantage. Historical documents often are misunderstood by amateurs who don't consider things like changes in meaning of words or practices and laws that applied in former times. In order to avoid this sort of problem, we use secondary sources, and try to use reliable ones.

Secondary sources do fact-checking and historical interpretation for us. Our guarantee that they do it well is twofold: we consider multiple secondary sources where available, and we try to use ones with a good reputation for accuracy. Now, it is important to remember that we use secondary sources, we don't create them. You probably think that you were doing a good job by calling up the salon to verify employment, but actually doing so means that you are acting as the author of a secondary source. We have only your word, and quite frankly you shouldn't take my word and I shouldn't take yours about such things. Now, if you had an article from the Village Voice saying that the author checked the facts, that would be a different matter: other editors could go to the library and read it. Writers for the Voice are held to a high standard, and while they get some facts wrong, they do pretty well.

We don't use tertiary sources, except perhaps to verify a trivial fact or as starting points for research.

The interview in Men's Health is somewhere between a primary and secondary source. It isn't always easy to figure out what to do with such things, because the only thing we are told with assurance is that the subject said the things in the interview. There is no assertion that the subject's claims were fact-checked. I leave the reputation of the magazine for fact-checking alone.

Now, if after reading all this, you think that you can properly source your edits, or that your sources meet standards, the proper place to discuss this is on the talk page for the relevant article. User:Michael Snow should have dropped a short note here, and explained on the relevant talk pages. But, you could have explained over there. After a revert or two (not four) you two should have discussed things. Most editors are reasonable if approached with an assumption of good faith.

Happy editing, and I hope that you didn't mind the lecture. Robert A.West (Talk) 06:51, 14 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Elvera Sanchez and Sammy Davis Jr.

I received your message. Thank you for forwarding your concern. Yes, I agree with you. He also reverted the Sammy Davis Jr. article. I wrote the following message in the talk page. [1]. I have also notified a "Top" Wikipedian to also look into the issue. If you ever feel the need to get in touch with me again please do not hesitate to do so. Tony the Marine 02:56, 26 April 2006 (UTC)

  • Looked at your adition and it is great. The problem with the article as I see it is that Arniep deletes all mention of what is commonly believed and that is that Elvera Sanchez and Sammy Davis Jr. were of PR descent. It is O.K. to mention author Haygood's allegations as long as the part of the Puerto Rican descent isn't deleted. Hey man, write about yourself in your user page. Take care. Tony the Marine 04:41, 28 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Something came up

My friend, I have an intellectual relationship with Prof. Olimpia Colon who happens to be the niece of Jesus Colon (Who's bio I wrote). I e-mailed her in regard to Sammy Davis Jrs' mother and this is what she had to say:

Hola Tony:

On Oct. of 1999 I attended the Schomberg Center, for a commemoration of the 100 New York Black. The Schomberg Center paid all the expenses for me and my son Nelson López Colón, transportation and hotel. I have picture of the event, also the pamphlet handed out with all on the honorees, with photos and a brief biography. On the last page they state the Honorable Mention, when you see those names and know that Jesús Colón was chosen, I felt so proud.

Sammy Davis Jr. was one of the chosen and his mother was there. Since I am handicap and use an electric wheelchair, a van was provided for use and the elderly. Once in the van she was sited in front of me, very proudly I asked from what part of Puerto Rico she from was. Very indignant she replied that she was not puertorrican, that a neighbor had spread that rumor and she did not want me to repeat it.

I have a friend that is a croupier, and he had told me that when Sammy came to PR and stayed at the hotel, when this was mentioned to him he was rude in his reply and had treated them as inferiors. Like mother, like son.

You can write to the Schumberg Center in NY, write to Dr. Dodson he was the coordinator of that activity and has been with the center for many years, I think her name was Josephine, some say her last name is Sánchez. What ever you find out let me know please. My son is my witness I felt very bad for inquiring but I am glad she is not puertorrican.

Maybe at CUNY they might have some more information, it is necessary to clear this up because we are proud of what we are, he who is not should not be acknowledge as so.

Hasta pronto,

Olimpia Colón Aponte

I respect Olimpia Colon and accept what she told me as a fact. Tony the Marine 01:49, 29 April 2006 (UTC)

I respect that you respect Olimpia's word, however, I feel that until the author (Haygood) or another source can clarify this via press release from the Schomburg or via Sammy's official website, that his autobiography stands for who he was. There can be a strong possibility that her heritage was made up, however, it should be noted that whover claims diffrently should certify their claim via a notary public. I, for example, have to get everything I notarize in regards to a legal case I am a claimant. That way I can't go back against my word nor claim that someone wrote my words on my behalf. I think that would be sufficient in not compromising journalistic and research integrity on a subject. I don't feel anything has been proven without authencity of an e-mail and/or testimony that has been transcribed and certified. This prevents this topic from being reopened again in the future. XLR8TION

[edit] Chat

Hi XLR8TION, thanks for adding the two names to the list. In regard to the images, help us eliminate the gaps. If you believe that there are too many images, take out the ones that you believe may be less representative of our "pueblo". Saludos, Tony the Marine 16:02, 11 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Elvera Sanchez and Sammy Davis Jr.

Hello, we agreed that Davis could appear in both lists due to the disagreement with an explanation. Please do not put POV assertions that the claims were unproven, we can only say what is said not make our own judgements. Arniep 20:28, 12 May 2006 (UTC)

Sorry but to use "allege", not "suggest" is to put a negative connotation on the book, and that is your POV. Regards Arniep 20:38, 12 May 2006 (UTC)
Also the book was verified by members of the Sanchez family so please do not indicate that it was not. Arniep 20:40, 12 May 2006 (UTC)

Suggest is when you provide advice, hence "I suggest you take the road to Rome." That is why stores have "suggestion boxes". Allege and allegations are facts presented that is up to the public to determine is what is presented is valid. Hence, "There are allegations that JFK had an affair with Marilyn Monroe, however this has never been proven officially." The author has suggest but the so-called Sanchez family can't speak for Sammy's estate or descendants as they control his image to this nce, if a Juan Sanchez claims that he is Sammy's long lost uncle, that would be an "allegation" not a "suggestion." I am not telling th reader to take a side. Instead I would prefer to put a "dispute" banner on the site so that they can refer to the notes in that section. Bear or Bare? Sound alike but mean two different things. Suggest and allege are also two different things. User:XLR8TION

Sorry you are the one that is being over zealous by changing the articles when everyone else was clearly happy with it. Again, to change suggestion to allegation is to put the book in a bad light as allegations almost always refer to something negative. Please stop inserting your own point of view on the reliability of the book. Thankyou Arniep 22:14, 12 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Re:Denisse Oller

Hi there amigo, I went and tagged the photo as "PromoPhoto" for you. It seems that you did everything right Sometimes when you scroll down the tag options, you can't find o0ne which fits your needs. In the case of obtaining a photo from a media the best tag is the one I mentioned. Cuidate Tony the Marine 01:46, 14 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Talk:Puerto Rico

It seems to me that you have acted in an uncivil manner on Talk:Puerto Rico. It is important to keep a cool head, despite any comments against you. Personal attacks and disruptive comments only escalate a situation; please keep calm and action can be taken against the other parties if necessary. Your involvement in attacking back can only satisfy trolls or anger contributors, and lead to general bad feeling. Please try to remain civil with your comments. Thanks!

It would be wise to ignore the vandal who keeps commenting on Puerto Rico. He has nothing to contribute to this encyclopedia thus we should not waste our time with him/her. Joelito (talk) 17:23, 16 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Diplomats

What contributions to world politics have Cesar Benito Cabrera, Gabriel Guerra-Mondragon, Luis Guinot and Hans Hertell made to world politics that made them notable or famous? O.K., so they were ambassadors to some country but, what were their accomplishments as Ambassadors representing the United States? The only notable former U.S. Ambassadors who were Puerto Rican were Horacio Rivero and Teodoro Moscoso and even they did not gain notability as Ambassadors. I agree that there are too many names in the "list" who do not merit being there and should be taken out and that includes Ambassadors whose only shining moment was to be named Ambassadors but, who have not gained any notability nor fame. Look, I know that you feel very strong about Puerto Rico and you know that I feel the same way, the only thing that I'm trying to say is that we can't continue to add names to the list unless their accomplishments have been notable and have put the name of "Puerto Rico" en alto. Tony the Marine 02:32, 27 June 2006 (UTC)

There are many many names on that list of people who are teachers who never made a headline or contributed to the island in one way or another. There are models who show their rears and breats and yet they are celebrated. The list, like the island should be democratic and not managed by solely two people. That is just like the PNP writing another party's description on a ballot. Just like the "Grito de Lares" survey I feel this topic should be put to a vote and also that list should be cleaned out of insignificant people who really are no ones. It is time to comb through the list and do lclean up of these names so that real, inspirational names can be added. Furthermore, diplomats are the faces of a country to a nation. Hence, these diplomats represented 280 million citizens to a national government. Admiral Rivero was the last US Ambassador to present his credentials to Franco. Guerra-Mondragan helped the US and Cjile sign a free trade agreement. Hertell helped Puerto Rico sign an agreement on repatriation of illegal Dominican migrants that arrived in the island. This is far way much more important than Taina's breast implants or many little-known singers on the list. Please keep the list as is and start a discussion instead of deletion. Inclusion, not exclusion should be the lists' theme. Cubans-Americans and other Latino groups do include U.S. ammbassadors. Why not Puerto Ricans? --XLR8TION 14:10, 27 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] List of Puerto Ricans

One of the main concerns about the "list" is that it is getting out of control and that many names of people who have only had their "15 minutes of fame" or simply are non-notables are being added. I propose that we set up guidelines as to who should be admitted with a clear definition as to the terms "notable" and "fame". I am calling upon the parties interested to express their opinion and to help develope these guidelines. I believe that after we take a vote and reach a consensus, said guidelines should be followed and posted either on the article or the articles talk page. We need your help. [edit] Junior Vasquez

Hi. I reverted the Junior Vasquez article again using popups, so I couldn't leave a comment in the edit summary, but I think you misunderstood my edit; the diff makes it look more drastic than it is. As I mentioned in my previous edit summary, the only things I removed from the article were (1) the plagiarized content taken from the innewsweekly.com article, and (2) an unsourced claim about Vasquez being a no-show at many events recently. In biographies of living persons, any claims that can be construed as defamatory must have sources cited. There does not need to be any discussion prior to such removals; it's policy.

Aside from those deletions, I cleaned up and added some links (such as to the innewsweekly.com article), I added details from the widely reprinted AllMusic bio (mainly dates and info about specific clubs where he spun), and as noted on the talk page, I added some qualifiers to accommodate the claim that someone brought up about Madonna's voice on the infamous recording not being authentic. I characterized it in such a way as to not take a stand on the recording's authenticity. Another change was that since there seem to be just as many sources saying his birthdate is 1946 as there are saying 1949, I made a note of that, which seems benign. All other copy edits were cosmetic (punctuation, headings, consistent use of names, etc.) —mjb 19:57, 7 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Image Tagging for Image:Kgnofficial.jpg.JPG

Thanks for uploading Image:Kgnofficial.jpg.JPG. The image has been identified as not specifying the source and creator of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. If you don't indicate the source and creator of the image on the image's description page, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided source information for them as well.

[edit] License tagging for Image:Pararedespr.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Pararedespr.jpg. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

[edit] Migene Gonzalez-Wippler

I saw the article and she seems to be a very interesting person. You're right, someone is bound to come along and yell "Copyright Vio". What I suggest is: rewrite the article in your own words using the basic format used in other articles. Try to find other website about her and insert any additional info. that you find. For example, I wrote my latest article Carmen Contreras-Bozak after researching every single website on her and then I used all the info and developed an article in my own words. Tony the Marine 23:58, 23 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Hans Hertell

I fixed and tagged the Sila image for you. It seems as if some clown deleted the other picture and pasted the basketball player. The Hans Hertell article is great! Written like a pro. I couldn't find the one on Gabriel. Maybe you missed spelled his name on my talk page. Let me know and then I'll check again tomorrow. Go to German immigration to Puerto Rico and post Hertell's name in the section "Puerto Ricans with German surnames".Tony the Marine 05:05, 25 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] I need your help

Please go to Talk:List of notable Puerto Ricans and address User:Cmh, who insists on removing our established criteria link from the page. He also wanted to remove our flag. Thank you Tony the Marine 15:33, 25 July 2006 (UTC)

  • Gabriel Guerra-Mondragón, this is really great stuff! I'm really proud of the way your articles are turning out. Now you see what I mean't when I said that we needed to know about the contributions of these people? Please, add these Diplomats to the "List of notable Puerto Ricans" as being the first PR's to be named ambassadors to those countries, they meet the "criteria". Another thing, please post your "barnstar" on your User page. I would like the world to know what a great contributor to PR-related articles you have become. [edit] Orphaned fair use image (Image:Pararedespr.jpg)

Warning sign This file may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading Image:Pararedespr.jpg. I notice the 'image' page currently specifies that the image can be used under a fair use license. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BigDT 01:34, 26 July 2006 (UTC)

  • In response to your email you sent, the copyright tag you have selected may very well be correct. The problem is that this image is not currently used in any articles. If you use it in an article, you can just remove the tag that I added. If the image does not get used in an article, then it isn't really serving any purpose, and thus will be deleted. I hope this helps - if I didn't adequately answer your question, please feel free to clarify. BigDT 19:09, 26 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Providencia Paredes

I saw the image and the main problem that I see is that it comes from an auction house and therefore, it isn't PD. If it had been from a newspaper article or from a news website then you could have tagged it as {{Promotional}} but, that is not the case. I tried to search for some other images on her but, I came up short. Tony the Marine 02:31, 26 July 2006 (UTC)

  • Luis Guinot is excellent, you're doing doing a really good job. In regard to the image, you can try tagging it as "promotional" and place your reasons (remember to take off the "warning"). Then see what happens. If somebody else sends you a warning then ask the person to give you an exlaination. Tony the Marine 03:19, 26 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Image copyright problem with Image:Mcatoday.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Mcatoday.jpg. The image has been identified as not specifying the copyright status of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. If you don't indicate the copyright status of the image on the image's description page, using an appropriate copyright tag, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided copyright information for them as well.

The problem with the image is that a verifiable website is not cited. If you have to post the newspaper website from where you uploaded the image and then tag it "promotional". Tony the Marine 00:51, 27 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Unspecified source for Image:Veronicavasquez.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Veronicavasquez.jpg. I notice the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this file yourself, then there needs to be a justification explaining why we have the right to use it on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you did not create the file yourself, then you need to specify where it was found, i.e., in most cases link to the website where it was taken from, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the file also doesn't have a copyright tag, then one should be added. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{fairusein|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. feydey 04:47, 31 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Zuleyka Rivera

You have no proof of Miss Rivera's mixed heritage! I'm not disputing or trying to cause an argument with you over it, but you should know how sensitive people get when it comes to race. Although I'm not offended, others may be. That, unfortunately, is how this world is. IGNORANT!! Anyways, until you or someone else provides a legitimate source proving Miss Rivera is infact of mixed heritage, your contribution will be deleted from her bio.

[edit] List of Puerto Ricans

Hey Amigo, how you doing? Keep an eye out for Pablo Casals. Somebody (I don't know who) took him out of the list and even went to his article and took out any mention of his PR heritage. I'm telling you this because I know that you are always on the lookout of the List of Puerto Ricans. Take care. Tony the Marine 01:16, 20 August 2006 (UTC)

  • I know what you mean. There are a lot of racist people around that tend to sterotype us. My family from Yauco, came from Corsica and the Santiago part of my family from Spain. That's why I wrote some of the Puerto Rican immigration articles. As far as I'm concerned Puerto Ricans are not racist ( aleast not to the extent of most countries), they open their arms to everyone. The fact that there may be some culture clashes with new immigrants is true, but that happens in every culture in the world until the new arrivals assimilate the customs of there new homeland. Hey mi Pana, how you doing.

I went and eliminated a lot of "red links" (people whose names have been around for a long time and nobody's written about them) and also some names that I've never heard of. You take a look and and continue the elimination of process of names. If I took out someone whom you think should be on the list, then add it back. After you do your clean-up of the list you can go to me and request a special protection so, that only registered users can edit the page and not the no-nons. Cheers! [edit] Re:Deirdre Connelly

I took a look at the images of Connelly and Negron and the licenses seem to be the proper ones. You can do this, add a rationale after the license and that way you can avoid most of the Copyright notices that you are sent. Here is an example of the rationale that I used when I uploaded a Map of the Slave Trade: Slave Trade Map. You can add the same thing to the images that you upload.

I'm glad you like the PR Military women article. Only one person critized the photos of the women who perished in war however, everybody else thought that it was fine as is. I wanted to show that our women even though they are great mothers and wives, they are also willing to sacrifice their lives for what they believe in. I wanted to honor our brave women.

Remember, adding a rationale will save you a lot of headaches with yourr images. Tu amigo, Tony the Marine 05:21, 8 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Orphaned fair use image (Image:DennyMendez073.jpg)

Thanks for uploading Image:DennyMendez073.jpg. I notice the 'image' page currently specifies that the image is unlicensed for use on Wikipedia and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. Thank you. Gay Cdn (talk) (email) (Contr.) 01:39, 25 October 2006 (UTC)

I have added a link to the image into the article so it is showing up there. The issue is that within the image page the source provided is not for this picture it is for her as the Miss Universe picture. What is going to happen is I am going to delete the tag for the orphaned fair use claim, but I am going to replace it with a sources missing tag. What you need to do is:
  1. find out a source for this picture
  2. update the fair use tag from screenshot to likely promotional
I am not sure what questions you have about loading the image, it is already loaded, it is simply a case of providing the correct source and licensing information. I am more then willing to help you any way I can.--Gay Cdn (talk) (Contr.) 21:15, 25 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Please don't bite new users

In regards to the discussion at Talk:Puerto Rico, no matter how off you think someon'e viewpoint is, its not acceptable to call them an imbecile or a dolt. These are clear personal attacks and can lead to being blocked from editing. Remember, per WP:RS the more outrageous the claim, the better a source it needs - if someone comes up with something you don't believe could be true, ask for their sources and move on - don't tease or harass them. You'll meet all kinds of people at Wikipedia, so its good to think about how to always be civil and assume good faith in any situation. Shell babelfish 22:10, 3 November 2006 (UTC)

I've removed your personal attack from the message you left. I'm somewhat shocked that you came over to my talk page and did the same thing I just warned you about. Wikipedia strictly forbids making personal attacks about other users, even those you feel you're having trouble with. Please stop before someone is forced to block you. Wikipedia doesn't block people who are difficult to work with or hold views different from your own; for more information on blocks, please see WP:BLOCK. Shell babelfish 22:25, 3 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Warning removal

Hello! You've removed a recently added user warning template from your user or user talk page. This tends to give the impression that you didn't read it. User warning templates contain valuable information and although you may disagree, it's best if you consider them. Thank you. Crimsone 23:30, 3 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Final warning

Hello, I am a Wikipedia administrator responding to a complaint at WP:PAIN. For the most part you seem to be a constructive editor and you haven't been blocked since April so I'm extending the benefit of the doubt and giving a final warning rather than a block. Regardless of ideological differences with another editor, it is unacceptable to stoop to name calling. Durova 23:56, 3 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] 48 hour block

48 hour block issued for continued violations of WP:OWN. Repeated blankings of warnings to a talk page and refusal to discuss differences doesn't look good when an administrator weighs how long to impose a block. Please discuss problems rather than ignoring them. Durova 22:52, 4 November 2006 (UTC)

This blocked user (block log | autoblocks | unblock | contribs) asked to be unblocked, but one or more administrators has reviewed and declined this request. Other administrators can also review this block, but should not override the decision without good reason (see the blocking policy). This unblock request continues to be visible. Do not replace this message with another unblock request.

Request reason: "I was unfairly blocked by administrator Durova who took sides with an unregistered user who was spewing ignorant hatre-filled messages on a board; Furthermore, when cleaning my user page I removed messages that were cluttering my page and she blocked me without asking why I did so. I feel this is not only unprofessional but biased. I have ten articles ti post and am hampered because of this."

Decline reason: "Durova was not editing Puerto Rico so I see no bias whatsoever. You were clearly violating Wikipedia:No personal attacks and Wikipedia:Civility. --  Netsnipe  ►  18:33, 5 November 2006 (UTC)"

Administrators: This template should be removed when the block has expired, or after 2 days in the case of blocks of 1 week or longer.

The "clutter" you were removing comprised of legitimate warnings. You still appear to consider this page to be yours - a violation of WP:OWN. The page is owned by the community, and removing legitimate warnings in itself is considered a type of vandalism by many wikipedians, while being generally considered as bad form by the rest - at the very best it suggests a mere disregard of the warnings given to you in accordance with wikipedias policies. To be honest, having added a personal attack to an administrators talk page, straight after an administrator had warned you for the same, I'm suprised you weren't blocked there and then. To continue to repeatedly remove legitimate warnings after that is beyond the pale. I'm not a sysop, but I can't see how you were blocked unfairly - you were warned multiple times and even given the benefit of the doubt before being blocked. Crimsone 16:04, 5 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Image:Rogersanchezawd.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Rogersanchezawd.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{Replaceable fair use disputed}}
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that any fair use images which are replaceable by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. -- Chowbok 01:58, 7 November 2006 (UTC)

I have been following the controversy between you and unsigned entries. First, this isn't an issue of "courtesy". Some wiki users simply prefer to remain anonymous. You, on the other hand, as a valued editor of this emerging data source on which schoolchildren and adults around the world are increasingly relying upon, should be objective enough to value entries, not on the basis of whether or not the author wishes to be identified, but on the value of the information provided. I think that the information you deleted on the two Puerto Rican painters clearly demonstrates that their deletion from the prominent Puerto Ricans list should be reevaluated. I am not intending to be uncorteous by remaining---Anonymous at 5:34 am EDT December 6 2006.

Anyone who paints simply can not be added to the list. My nephew can fingerpaint and have his painting on a refrigerator and it doesn't mak ehim famous. I have see way too many names on the artist list who claim they are famous for giving Zuleyka Rivera a painting they did of her, or because a hotel in San Juan bought one of their paintings. To me this is a vanity approach. If a name added to the list doesn't meet the criteria of a world famous (or even a cultural sensation such as De La Vega is in New York City) then they should not be added to the list. I have cleaned up the list of many self-serving names who do not belong there. If you can provide at least 10 websites and the ISBN numbers to any biographies or collected works, I will look into your entries more. Also, if you plan on contributing, it might be a good idea to register with the site. --XLR8TION 12:31, 6 December 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for your guidance. I've done a websearch and found at least nine sites regarding one or both of the painters, which I include for your evaluation. By the way, I have no problem if you erase my unsigned entries especially the extensive information attached, since my only interest is that you receive the information. Since I would simply rather support the work that you, Tony the Marine and others do to build this new data source, I would rather remain---Anonymous at 9:03 pm EDT December 6 2006.

Neurotic imperatives: contemporary art from Puerto Rico Art Journal, Winter, 1998 by Marimar Benitez

(Marimar Benitez is the Chancellor of the Escuela de Artes Plasticas, and a renowned art critic)

"...In the sixties and seventies it was very difficult for artists not to be seduced by the goings on in New York. Supported by museums and galleries, ...

For Puerto Rican artists, the ascendancy of U.S. art posed a very real dilemma, a seemingly insurmountable conflict between the glamour of the metropolis and the social significance visual artists had attained as creators of Puerto Rican national identity vis-avis assimilation into U.S. culture...

The radical Nationalist movement, led by Pedro Albizu Campos, and pressure from the United Nations eventually resulted in reform...

The ambiguous political relationship between Puerto Rico and the United States has had a deep impact on the collective subconscious of our people and manifests itself in the visual arts...

Painting

The seventies and early eighties were the years of abstract art in Puerto Rico. The more favored style was Abstract Expressionism; the more severe and restrained Hard Edge, Color Field, and Minimalist modes had fewer followers. Luis Hernandez Cruz (b. 1936) was a prime mover; he organized Grupo Frente and the Congress of Abstract Artists, short-lived but very active in promoting all manner of nonfigurative expressions. Four newspapers featured art criticism, and Grupo Frente published a quarterly, while the Art Students' League put forth Plastica, a magazine of the arts.'The Instituto de Cultura Puertorriquena's workshops evolved into the Escuela de Artes Plasticas, a professional art school that has become a principal training center for young artists, rivaling the University of Puerto Rico. Noemi Ruiz (b. 1931) and Jaime Carrero (b. 1931) developed a vibrant, interdisciplinary cultural program centered on the visual arts at Interamerican University in San German. (The San Juan Graphics Biennial, organized by the Instituto de Cultura Puertorriquena in 1970, has attracted the best printmakers of Latin America and has fostered the participation of Puerto Rican artists in international printmaking competitions.)..."

Describes the public art works of the exclusive group of only six artists who were chosen to contribute to the Luis A. Ferré Centro de Bellas Artes, including the two painters whose prominence you've been debating:

The Luis A. Ferré Performing Arts Center, or Centro de Bellas Artes Luis A. Ferré (CBA) in Spanish, is a multi-use performance centre located Santurce, San Juan, Puerto Rico. It features three main concert and theater halls for performing arts displays, including ballet, plays, operas and concerts, as well as contemporary music. It was renamed in 1994 after the late Puerto Rican politician and philanthropist Luis A. Ferré.

The Center opened on April 9, 1981 under the administration of then Governor Carlos Romero Barceló (PNP) after 10 years of planning, project financing, and construction. Since then, the Center has been the central part of performing arts and cultural presentations in the island's metropolitan area, hosting internationally renowned stars such as Plácido Domingo, and various plays, ballets, operas, and similar artistic expositions. The Center is also home to the Puerto Rico Symphony Orchestra and the annual Casals Festival.

The Center features three main concert and theater halls, two eateries and a central outdoor plaza, each with its own unique features:

Antonio Paoli Festival Hall dedicated to a renowned Puerto Rican opera singer, it is the largest and most important hall of the Center. Seating is between 1,875 and 1,945, and features two stories with VIP balconies, world-class acoustic system, and a 62 by 50 foot stage perfect for scenic musical performances including, operas, ballet, popular music shows, and symphonic concerts.

René Marqués Theater Hall dedicated to perhaps Puerto Rico's most famous poet, this hall seats between 748 to 781 guests and with a stage measuring 42 by 40 feet, it is specially designed for plays and musical performances.

Carlos Marichal Performance Hall dedicated to a respected Puerto Rican set and costume designer, the hall features seating for 210 guests in an intimate arena-styled theater.

Juan Morell Campos Plaza located right in front of the Center's main entrance, it is a large open plaza featuring various sculptures called The Muses, the Las Tablas Restaurant, and is available for outdoor activities and presentations for 800 guests.

Sylvia Rexach Theater Café designed to be a fourth, but relatively smaller, concert hall, the Café opened in 1988 and offers a relaxed nightclub theme for up to 200 guests with a small stage for intimate performances. A xylographic mural by famed local artist Antonio Martorell decorates its walls and grants homage to Sylvia Rexach.

Las Tablas Restaurant (formerly the Arts Pavilion) is a restaurant within the Juan Morell Campos Plaza and features an award winning architectural design. The restaurant, whose theme literally embodies the phrase The Beauty of the Caribbean, is owned by international pop star Luis Fonsi and local music and concert producer Tony Mojena. Its menu, developed by Giovanna Huyke, is built around the theme the taste of music, and comprises mostly of local traditional foods prepared by its in-house chef Alexis Bartolomei.

Surrounding art

The Center is surrounded by various art expositions, including murals, paintings, and sculptures. The two largest halls feature art expositions which distinguishes each one:

In the Antonio Paoli Festival Hall's second floor, a 30 by 15 foot mural titled La Plena by Rafael Tufiño is on display and represents twelve famous Puerto Rican plenas by local songwriter Manuel "Canario" Jiménez: Cortaron a Elena; Temporal; El Perro de San Jerónimo; Josefina; Santa María; Tintorera del Mar; Fuego, Fuego, Fuego; Monchín del Alma; Cuando las Mujeres; Tanta Vanidad; Lola; and El Diablo Colorao. The mural was created 30 years before the opening of the Center between 1952 and 1954. It was moved to its current place in 1987 after a three year restoration project by Anton Konrad.

In the René Marqués Hall, a 20 by 39 foot stained glass exposition titled Form and Tropical Crystals by local artist Luis Hernández Cruz illuminates its lobby with 5,700 multi-colored pieces of crystal arranged to showcase themes related to the sea, the forest, the sky and the overall tropical ambiance.

Near the entrance of the Center, various expositions greet guests and visitors, including a 40 foot aluminum sculpture by Luis Torruella titled Melodic Reflection. However, the main art theme of the Center's entrance are The Muses. These are two separate works of art, one being an assortment of 6 foot tall bronze female sculptures along the Juan Morell Campos Plaza, designed by Annex Burgos; and the second being a large mural at the Center's façade (pictured above), made from a mixture concrete and crystal stones and designed by Augusto Marín. Each muse represents the different arts and cultures which the Center embraces, including local and classical music, theater, literature, dance, films, architecture, sculptures, and painting.

"Heavy on Latin American artists, many from Alegría's native Puerto Rico, ... painting by influential Puerto Rican abstractionist Luis Hernández Cruz"

Press release mentions both painters as two of seven "master artists" who were supporting an "arts for Vieques" activity:

PRESS RELEASE

I BELIEVE AND CREATE IN VIEQUES: ARTISTS FOR PEACE ENTER THE US NAVY RESTRICTED ZONE IN VIEQUES

Vieques, Puerto Rico. Today, August 28, 2000, a group of graphic artists and actors entered the restricted zone of the US Navy on Vieques. The artists performed a theatrical-pictoral play titled: I BELIEVE IN VIEQUES. They proclaimed the fundamental importance of the landscape, which for sixty years the US Navy has been destroying with their war practices. This distruction has caused grave damages, not only to the landscape but also to the mental, physical and spiritual health of the people of Vieques.

The artists painted a spectacular human mural in which they portrayed the landscape of the Isla Nena (Baby Island-Vieques) that proclaimed, "from the esthetic point of view the landscape has been, and will be a vital source of inspiration of artistic creation." The artists and actors formed two groups: one that entered the restricted area in a civil disobedience act, and another group providing support on the outside. The support group, besides presenting a mural similar to the Vieques landscape, showed another mural that was an adaptaption of the world famous painting by Picaso, GUERNICA, to dramatize the serious situation of the Navy presence on Vieques.

The artists that fooled the military security and entered the restricted zone this morning at dawn were: Rafael Trelles, ... The support group was composed of the actors and actresses ...

From the main island, master artists Rafael Tufiño, Antonio Martorell, Antonio Maldonado, Augusto Marín, Lorenzo Homar, Myrna Báez and Luis Hernández Cruz, among others, expressed their solidarity with the artists' proclamation.

The artists had the logistic support of the Committee for the Rescue and Development of Vieques and Peace and Justice Camp of Vieques. The Viequenses recognized the importante of this action in support of Peace for Vieques and the demands for demilitarization, decontamination, return of the lands and sustainable economic development of a Free Vieques.

[edit] German immigration to Puerto Rico

Mi hermano, mi mano derecha, how's it going. I want to point out why I have included Lila Mayoral Wirshing's name in the "Famous Puerto Ricans with German surnames" section.

Lila's fame comes about as a former first lady of P.R. (That's a given). Her grandfather was Hermann Wirshing from Bremen, Germany. Hermann married Julia Serrallés and lived in Ponce. Hermann's brother, Johann Albert Wirsching is the grandfather of Hernán José Wirshing (Lila's cousin), the Chief US Marshall of Puerto Rico. You know me, I do my homework. Now, on the other hand Woodlawn is an anglo surname and not German. Remember the section clearly states "Puerto Ricans with "German" surnames. I know that you will understand because you and I are like brothers in the Wiki project.

One thing though, the List of famous Puerto Ricans is getting out of hand. Too many people who want to self-promote themselves and who think themselves "famous" are adding their names to the list. Tu amigo, Tony the Marine 16:24, 6 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Muna Lee

1. O.K. Amigo, I created a disamb. page. Here it is Muna Lee.

2. Post the photo as a historic one using this tag: {{HistoricPhoto}}.

3. Yep, this is a case similar to Tony Croatto. There are some people who do not have a drop of Puerto Rican blood but, whose dedication and love for Puerto Rico, are more Boricua then some people who were born there, ej. Luis Miguel.

Tell me if I have answered your questions. Tu Amigo, Tony the Marine 23:51, 12 December 2006 (UTC)
