Xica

Xica (also known as Xica da Silva) is a 1976 Brazilian drama film directed and written by Carlos Diegues. It stars the famous telenovela actress Zezé Motta as the titular character. Its music score was composed by popular singer Jorge Ben Jor. Xica became somewhat notable, as is one of the first Brazilian films in which the main actress is an black woman.

Xica tells the true story of the uncommonly sexy, clever and ambitious African slave named Xica da Silva. Xica won her emancipation and much more in the mid-19th-century Brazil by using her feminine wiles and her lovemaking prowess to induce the Portuguese town governor to grant her freedom. In doing so, she became a legend and an inspiration to Brazil's large population of slaves and, eventually, former slaves.
