Xiahou En
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Xiahou En (夏侯恩) (167–208) was an officer of the Cao Wei during the Three Kingdoms period. He was a distant nephew of Xiahou Dun.
Xiahou En gained acclaim during a hunting trip when he saved Cao Cao from a tiger, earning the right to bear one of Cao Cao's personal blades, known variously as the Blue Blade or Qin Gong (the Sword of Light). Subsequently, during an attack on Xu Province, Xiahou En gained fame for his archery, earning comparisons to his cousin Xiahou Yuan. Xiahou En served as a front line general in the struggle against the Shu Han, and at the Battle of Chang Ban, wounded the enemy general Jian Yong in a fierce attack, but was then slain by Zhao Yun, who had come in relief of the besieged forces.
Many of the details of his life are known only through the fictional novel Romance of the Three Kingdoms, so it is difficult to ascertain which of his deeds are indeed factual.
According to the Dynasty Warriors games, Xiahou En held not one, but two swords for Cao Cao; however, his fate remains largely the same as in the novelization.
