[edit] History

[edit] Foundation

Established in 1987, the Institute owes its origin to a Social Contract between the Government of Orissa and the OJS (Orissa Jesuit Society). The management of the institute is in the hands of a Governing Board, consisting of representatives from the Jesuit Society, Government of India, Government of Orissa and eminent industrialists and educationists.

[edit] Mission

The mission of XIMB derives from its origin which aims at developing professional managers for the corporate sector and for other socio-economic institutions which serve the people of India and fostering the progress of the nation towards a more prosperous, just and humane society.

While being national in scope and international in networking, XIMB focuses special attention on the management needs of both corporate and service sectors. XIMB aims to develop technical, professional and managerial excellence, social and cultural sensitivity, ethical responsibility, and concern for the environment.

[edit] Academic Programs

The academic programs offered by XIMB are based on the standard model of management education practised globally. These programs are distinguished by their rigour and discipline. The institute has created an environment where an intellectually stimulating interface is nurtured by the students and the faculty members, with able support from the curriculum, infrastructure & technology.

Currently, XIMB offers the following diploma and certficate programs, namely,

  • Postgraduate Diploma in Business Management (PGP)
  • Postgraduate Diploma in Rural Management (PGPRM)
  • Doctoral Level Fellow Program in Management (FPM)
  • Executive Postgraduate Diploma in Business Management (Ex-PGP)
  • Postgraduate Certificate Program in Business Management (PGCBM)
  • Management Development Programs

[edit] Postgraduate Diploma in Business Management (PGP)

This is the flagship program of the institute. The two-year program is designed to prepare competent men and women for careers in management in the corporate sector and public systems.

The courses impart a generalist perspective, which enables students to view the entirety of an organisation as well as its place in a larger environment. The students are also trained in technical and functional business skills such as accounting, finance, marketing, production, human resources etc and are helped to develop their analytical and integrative skills so that they can define problems with clarity and formulate alternative solutions for implementation.

The students are required to take XAT (XLRI Admission Test) conducted by XLRI Jamshedpur to be eligible to apply to this program.

[edit] Postgraduate Diploma in Rural Management (PGPRM)

XIMB's two-year Rural Management program aims at training professional managers for the rural sector. The course is designed to address the following objectives:

   * Blending the managerial knowledge and practices of people with modern management science and techniques.
   * Building and strengthening people's organisations.
   * Knowledge and skill needed for effective utilisation and management of human and valuable resources.
   * Application of technology to analyse factors influencing rural realities.
   * Generating an interface between the corporate sector and social development

The students are required to take either XAT (XLRI Admission Test) conducted by XLRI Jamshedpur or IRMA Test, conducted by the Institute of Rural Management, Anand to be eligible to apply to this program.

[edit] Doctoral Level Fellow Program in Management (FPM)

XIMB's fellow program draws upon national and international experience in doctoral-level education in management and related disciplines. The program is designed to provide a rich exposure to the methodological issues in management research, apart from the necessary subject-specific training. Selected students attend Research Training Seminars round the year.

There is an emphasis on imparting in-depth knowledge on the relevant academic debates in the area of research selected by the student. This is operationalised through intensive Research Review Seminars. Students also benefit from a Pedagogical Training component. Overall, the fellow program is oriented towards developing transferable research skills. The Institute makes a limited number of research assistantships available to deserving students.

The students are required to write any of the following tests, namely, CAT, UGC NET, XAT or XIMB Research Aptitude Test (XIMB-RAT), to be eligible to apply to this programme.

[edit] Executive Postgraduate Diploma in Business Management (Ex-PGP)

The three year program is designed to contribute towards managerial effectiveness in working executives to help them further their careers in management both in the corporate sector and public systems. As such, the program seeks to build on the problem-solving skills developed through specialised experience in a particular functional area. Academic inputs provided bring out the inter-relationship among various functional areas as well as the techniques in functional areas other than those in which the participant has experience.

The participants reside in the campus for 15 days at a stretch, thrice a year (45 days in a year). In the intervening period, they are expected to complete the assigned readings and projects.

The candidates are required to apply directly to the institute. Based on criteria set forth by the institute, a short-list is prepared & the selected people are called for group discussions and personal interviews.

[edit] Postgraduate Certificate Program in Business Management (PGCBM)

XIMB in association with Reliance World (then Reliance WebWorld) launched the PGCBM program in 2005 via virtual classroom (VC). Across the world, management education via VC mode is one of the most sought after educational systems. It not only helps a working executive to simultaneously work and study but it also takes high quality education to a large number of students spread across the country. XIMB has an ideal partner in Reliance World for providing the VC platform and the VC classrooms spread across India.

This PGCBM Programme provides a live and interactive classroom environment using the power of cutting edge Video conferencing technology. This VC Technology facilitates multipoint interaction between the Professor and the students, as seen in a conventional classroom. Reliance Webstore Ltd., the technology leaders in Video conferencing, are providing this cutting edge VC technology as well as the virtual classrooms. Thus, this two-way video VC technology of XIMB overcomes the limitations of one-way video seen otherwise.

The programme is available simultaneously across 102 cities in India.

[edit] Management Development Programs

XIMB has recently launched Management Development Programs in collaboration with HughesNet. These programs have been named as Executive Certificate in Marketing Management (ECMM) and Executive Certificate in Human Resource Management (ECHRM).
