X is the tenth album by British hard rock band Def Leppard, released in 2002. Much like 1996's Slang, it featured another musical departure from their signature sound by moving into the pop genre. It was produced by the band with Pete Woodroffe.

The turn of the century saw a gradual revival of popularity of the band; in July 2001, VH1 aired a biopic, Hysteria - The Def Leppard Story, to record ratings. While 1999's Euphoria had been a moderate success, diehard fans commented that the album sounded overproduced and forced in an effort to sound like the Def Leppard of the 1980s.

Pop music had become the dominant format at Top 40 radio, and the band felt it was the perfect direction for their music. Under the tutelage of Mutt Lange, the band always displayed a clear taste for pop in their hard rock sound, and had featured more heavily on recent songs such as "Breathe A Sigh" and "All Night".
