Close Range: Wyoming Stories

Close Range: Wyoming Stories (ISBN 1-85702-942-9) is a collection of short stories written by E. Annie Proulx, and published in 1999, set in the desolate landscape of rural Wyoming and detailing the often grim lives of the protagonists. The most acclaimed story from the collection is Brokeback Mountain, which was previously published as a 64-page novella in 1998 (ISBN 1-85702-940-2). This story has been made into a motion picture, Brokeback Mountain, directed by Ang Lee and starring Heath Ledger and Jake Gyllenhaal, which was released in December 2005.
