Wynyard, Tasmania

Wynyard is a rural town on the north-west coast of Tasmania, Australia. It lies 16 km west of Burnie on the Bass Highway, and has a population of 4,635 (2001 census [1]). It is part of the local government area of Municipality of Waratah-Wynyard, the mayor is Kevin Hyland.

[edit] The Tulip Festival
The Wynyard Tulip Festival is also a popular event each year. The Tulip Festival was renamed to Bloomin' Tulips in 2004 by the festival committee. The festival is one of the towns greatest attractions with many tourists turning out to see the events.

Wynyard has Burnie Airport, run by the Burnie Port Authority, which serves the nearby city of Burnie. The airport is unusual in the fact that the runway and a railway line intersect each other.
By car it is approximately two hours drive West of Launceston, along the Bass Highway.
