Wyedean Comprehensive

Wyedean School and Sixth Form is a school in Chepstow, Wales.

Wyedean School and 6th Form is a mixed comprehensive school, with over 1100 pupils including 250 in the 6th form. It was first set up in 1973 and was then moved in 1976 to its current position, on the edge of Chepstow.

It is actually located very close to Chepstow, following the A48 road less than a mile into nearby Sedbury (over the River Wye from Chepstow), which is actually located in England - the border following the River Wye at this point.

The school day at Wyedean is split into 5 periods, each lasting 1 hour. Before school starts there is also a registration period.

The school boasts a large sports hall, which can be rented in the evenings; a new library, with IT facilities; a new canteen, where a variety of hot and cold food can be purchased; a new music suite, equipped with computers linked to recording equipment; and a new Design Technology Block.

The 6th Form block is currently undergoing building work to accommodate increase numbers of A-Level students, due to be finished by September 2006

The current headmaster of Wyedean is Mr. Pemberton who took over the role January 2006 from his predecessor John Claydon.

The school is divided into departments, each having a designated teacher as the 'head' of that department.

Most famously, JK Rowling, author of the Harry Potter books attended this school. During July 2006, the school library was dedicated to her. However, JK Rowling has made it clear that she did not enjoy her time at Wyedean, citing teachers and loneliness as some of the reasons for this.
