[edit] RE: Transportation in New York City
Thanks for the great additions to this article! --Quasipalm 18:13, 9 January 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Image:Fulton Street Transit Center.jpg
Hi. Thanks also for your work on NY transportation-related articles. I noticed Image:Fulton Street Transit Center.jpg from the MTA, that you uploaded. Can you explain how it's a work of the U.S. federal government, and thus in the public domain? I believe MTA holds the copyright to everything on their website. Also, there's Image:PATH_WTC_Station.jpg, which I don't think is in the public domain (as it's been tagged). Please let me know if you think I'm wrong about that. At minimum, I think we can argue that it meets the fair use guidelines. Please review Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for further details on choosing a copyright/license tag for images. Let me know if you have any questions about this. Thanks. —Kmf164 (talk | contribs) 21:07, 9 January 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Image:Acela Map.JPG
Also, where did you get Image:Acela Map.JPG? Thanks. —Kmf164 (talk | contribs) 21:10, 9 January 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Image:Roosevelt Tramway.jpg
And, Image:Roosevelt Tramway.jpg? Just because the author didn't assert any copyright, I'm quite sure he/she automatically has copyright anyway. We need more details regarding where you got this, in order to look into its copyright status. Thanks. —Kmf164 (talk | contribs) 21:12, 9 January 2006 (UTC)
[edit] US Collaboration of the Week
Thank you for notifying me about the NYC subway article US Collaboration of the Week nomination. I was thinking about nominating a similar article myself. Also, thanks for all your additions to the article. Krashlandon (e) 23:55, 22 January 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Barnstar
I, Krashlandon, bestow upon you the The Society Barnstar for all your additions to articles about New York, which I believe is another society entirely. You deserve it. Krashlandon (e) 02:18, 23 January 2006 (UTC)
[edit] US Collaboration of the week
You have voted for Transportation in New York City on WP:USCOTW. It was selected to be this week's winner. You are invited to contribute to improve Transportation in New York City in any way you can. Cmadler 13:30, 30 January 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Transportation in New York City
Yay! Transportation in New York City made it! Thanks for all your help. Krashlandon (e) 13:34, 30 January 2006 (UTC)
[edit] NYC Portal box
I think your suggestions are great! To edit a template, go to Template:New York City and edit it just like you would any other page. I went ahead and made the big changes, feel free to edit it some more. --Quasipalm 04:53, 29 January 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Regarding the edits to the NYC Education article
While I understand that you were trying to clear things up.. you should not have removed this from the section: "- Catholic schools in Manhattan, the Bronx, and Staten Island are operated by the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of New York. Catholic schools in Brooklyn and Queens are operated by the Roman Catholic Diocese of Brooklyn."
See, there is no subarticle of private schools in NYC. Therefore removal of this means a complete omitting of this fact. WhisperToMe 02:42, 3 February 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Userpage
Feel free to create a userpage for yourself. It is the first step to becoming a distinguished editor. You can put your awards on the page and write some information about your wiki-self. Krashlandon (e) 04:04, 3 February 2006 (UTC)
[edit] RE: Thanks for the Charts
Hey, thanks for your kind words about the work I've been doing on NYC demographics! It's always nice to hear. Don't worry, I'll be making plenty more infographics for NYC articles since it's really something I enjoy doing. I've noticed your work on the templates, and it's all great stuff too, so good job! (BTW, I did slim down the New York State template a bit because it was getting quite large -- we can re-add some of that information, but since it's on so many pages, I thought it made sense to keep it a bit stream-lined. Thoughts?) Anyway, take care! --Quasipalm 19:29, 3 February 2006 (UTC)
Hi Wv, hope you're doing well. I think the stats you requested might be here, but it seems they are offline for the moment. Also, pages with 1,000 hits in the month of 2-04 are here, but that list is getting pretty old and I'm sure it'd be a lot longer now. I'm not sure where else usage stats might be... but this page (when it's updated) might be helpful. Hope this helps! It might also be a good question for the Wikipedia:Help Desk. --Quasipalm 00:24, 15 February 2006 (UTC)
[edit] NYC Peer Review
For the peer review, I really don't see anything wrong with this article. It is certainly big enough, and I really don't see any POV issues. Yes, however I do see the article placement issues. Thank you for nominating me, I will get working on it right away. This is a great honor from me, and I will try my hardest to fix the problems. Pkazazes 17:29, 16 February 2006 (UTC)
[edit] 30 Rock
Thanks for adding the NY template. I can't believe no one had thought to do that yet. See you around! --Cantara 02:15, 23 February 2006 (UTC)
[edit] RE: NYC climate chart....
Hi Wv, great idea on the climate chart! I'll keep it in mind next time I have a few free hours to spend on a Wikipedia project. Also, thanks for the link about the tax imbalance! -Quasipalm 04:20, 24 February 2006 (UTC)
[edit] RE:New York City
I did not make up the 18.7 million figure for the New York-Northern New Jersey-Long Island MSA. I provided a link to the source which you have reverted. I only went by what the U.S. Census provided. If you want to talk about the combined statistical area (CSA), then it would be the New York-Newark-Bridgeport CSA and currently has a population of 22 million. CSAs, however, are not metropolitan areas—they combined several metropolitan areas and micropolitan areas of a region. See United States metropolitan area and http://www.census.gov/population/www/estimates/metropop/table01.csv.
Also, your edit summary on the New York City article made it seemed like I have vandalized the article by putting in false information—which I did not—and I do not appreciate that. RJN 23:20, 8 March 2006 (UTC)
- Just to let you know, CMSAs and PMSAs are no longer used after 2000—very outdated. In 2003, the U.S. Census introduced CSA, MSA, and MD (metropolitan division). RJN 23:34, 8 March 2006 (UTC)
-
- Okay, well if the people in New York consider the CSA as the definition of their metropolitan area, then feel free to change it back. The New York-Newark-Bridgeport CSA has seven (7) separate metropolitan areas within it, just to let you know. The New York-Northern New Jersey-Long Island MSA has four (4) metropolitan divisions (MDs). RJN 00:09, 9 March 2006 (UTC)
The Census bureau also seems to view the CSA as a more accurate reflection of the NY metro region than MSA. In a press release after the 2000 census it describes the NY metro population as "the most populous metro area with a population of 21.2 million." Since then the population has grown, but using the MSA measurement it would seem toa hve shrunk 5 million people in four years.
- Responding to above cut and paste text. Yes, the press release was made in 2001, but the change to CSA, MSA, and MD definitions did not happen until November 2003. After November 2003, they stopped using CMSAs and PMSAs. So in that 2001 press release, they were still referring to the CMSA of New York-Northern New Jersey-Long Island. [edit] What happened to this image
Hi, Shyam is on vacation from Wikipedia, so I'll try to reconstruct what happened to this image. You uploaded it in December, and your final version of its description was:
-
- Summary
- Subway riders aboard the F Train in Manhattan read newspapers on their morning commute. New York's use of mass transit affects the city's unique commuter culture. Photo: |Travis Ruse
-
- Licensing
- Photographer: Travis Ruse • Homepage: www.travisruse.com • Image URL: http://www.travisruse.com/archives/2005/11/f_train_manhatt_2.php
This summary does not mention the Creative Commons license that you said the author agreed to on Shyam's talk page. We are very careful about the use of images with uncertain copyright status, and, as a result, deleted the image. If you would, please re-upload the image, describe the author's licensing in the description, and add the correct image copyright tag. The tags for compatible creative commons licenses are listed here. If you have any questions, feel free to ask me on my talk page. Best regards. ×Meegs 01:28, 5 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Bombing the Times
Good job of putting something controversial into a very controversial article. Fair, to the point, reliably reports what's in the source. And I can't tell whether you love Ann, hate her, or are just an uninvolved reporter of her activities.
I do think the bombing belongs one step higher in the article, above the not as notable Domestic separatists stuff. I'll move it there if you don't object. Also, it would be good to have a cite for the NYT article she was talking about -- it's become pretty controversial itself. Lou Sander 20:45, 1 July 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Image:NYC subway riders with their newspapers.jpg
Hi! can you post the body text of the email from the photographer granting permission to use this photo. The copy of this photo on his website is accompanied by a copyright notice that would block usage of the picture on wikipedia. Thanks, JeremyA 15:35, 4 July 2006 (UTC)
[edit] New York City neighborhood infoboxes
Hi again Wv235. I just uploaded this, which I made as the base for the maps of nyc. I was thinking about using this to make a highlight for each hood a while ago, but never had the chance. These neighborhoods are based on the official new york city ones here: [1] -- so they might not correlate exactly with the articles, but they should be close. It might make sense to crop out Staten Island for the zoomed in version, because as is it might be a little hard to see the other highlighted hoods. -Quasipalm 02:49, 3 August 2006 (UTC)
Is this enough to get you started? Let me know if I can continue to help. -Quasipalm 21:51, 6 August 2006 (UTC)
- Do you have access to Photoshop? (You might also get the GIMP to work, but it's a bit tougher to learn.) -Quasipalm 23:45, 6 August 2006 (UTC)

A hell of a job you're doing on the Brooklyn article … keep up the good work! --Larry V (talk | contribs) 13:05, 4 August 2006 (UTC)
