Chapter one As far back as I can remember the most memorable year of my life began at the end of my sophomore year in high school. Who am I your probably asking yourself, the my name is Gabriel Scott, and this is my story. It all started about five years ago in a town called Brooklyn…
Five years ago: Brooklyn, New York: "Well, ladies and gentlemen this is it, it’s the final inning of the championship kickball game for Brooklyn high school, and the score is tied 12 to 12 Prospect heights high school team captain Gabriel Scott has called a time out to discuss some sort plan with his team." The announcer says.
"Okay guys this is it, the score is tied and we need a plan." I say to my team.
"I got one, Gabriel." Louis Stefani, my best friend for as long as I can remember comes over to me and says.
"All right, what is it Lou?" I ask him
"Let’s give them an atomic bomb." He says.
Now I'm sure you’re all wondering what the hell is an atomic bomb? Well, if you've ever played kickball before than you've heard of a cherry bomb, well, imagine that times one-hundred, no wait, a thousand.
"All right I’ll do it." I say to him.
I step up to home plate and begin to feel out the pitch of the ball. The pitcher pitches the ball, I let it roll onto my foot and stay there a few seconds. Then I fling it into the air and dropkick it sending it flying out of the park.
Then the announcer exclaims, "I thought I had seen it all folks, but, team captain Gabriel Scott has just kicked the ball to god knows where and won his team the state championship!"
Lou comes over and says, "Let’s go celebrate."
"Hell yeah!" Tommy and Joey say. Tommy and Joey are two of me and Lou's really good friends as well as members of our kickball team.
So we leave the field for a celebratory pizza dinner, and we were about two blocks away when this top-heavy muscular man approaches my friends and me and says, "You must be Gabriel Scott."
I say to him, "Who wants to know?"
He says, "Oh nobody, just me and a couple of my friends." When out steps about seven of his “friends”, who are about as big as him.
I say to my friends, "You guys might want to stand back a little, things could get dicey." Then I look at Lou and say, "Take my vest." he nods and takes it from me, I then turn to the Groups leader and ask, "What’s your name?"
"Daniel Johansen, now prepare to die." he responds.
He begins to throw a fury punches and kicks at me, and the fight started off easy, that is until his “friends” decided to join in. I took a few hits to the stomach, and a couple more to the jaw, and thought to myself, damn! I gotta turn this around. I proceeded to feign a punch at one of them, then nail him in the jaw. I then knocked a couple more out until Daniel was the only one left. I kicked him in the stomach, when he doubled over I kneed him in the face knocking him out cold.
I proceed to take a black rose I keep in my backpack out and place it on his chest. Lou looks at me and says, "What’s the rose for?"
I turn to them and say, "To let him know he got his ass kicked by the Don."
"Whoa." is all my friends can say.
I look at them and say, "Weren’t we about to celebrate?"
"Hell yeah!" They all exclaim.
We proceed to go to the Northern lights pizza co. for a Friday night celebration. We ordered up, got our pizza & headed back to my place.
When we got there we were hit by the shock of a lifetime, my family had just inherited one million dollars, thus making my family one of the richest families in the state.
Later that night when I was lying in bed, I got to thinking about the events that had transpired throughout the day. I then looked over at my stepbrother and asked him, "Hey Ritchie, do you believe in destiny?"
"Sure, why?" He asks.
"I don’t know, I just get the feeling mine belongs elsewhere." I tell him.
"Maybe it does." he responds.
I then begin to doze off and have what I still to this day consider the weirdest dream of my life.
