[edit] Alexis Thorpe

What is the source of that picture? It needs a tag, like whether it is fair use, etc. Also, James E. Reilly didn't create the Gemini twins. He didn't come back to the show until mid-2003...so all he did to Cassie DiMera was "kill" her. Mike H 12:49, Dec 6, 2004 (UTC)

[edit] Alexis Thorpe Photo

(Actually, that came from http://www.tvtome.com. Type "Alexis Thorpe" into the search box, and click "Gallery" when you get to the biography section. I hope that clears things up...)

[edit] Image copyright problem RE: Image:WTGDMan1986.jpg

Warning sign
This image may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading Image:WTGDMan1986.jpg. The Wikimedia Foundation is very careful about the images included in Wikipedia because of copyright law. We need you to specify two things on the image description page:

  • The copyright holder, and
  • The copyright status

The copyright holder is usually the creator. If the creator was paid to make this image, then their employer may be the copyright holder. If several people collaborated, then there may be more than one copyright holder. If you created this image, then you are the copyright holder.

Because of the large number of images on Wikipedia, we've sorted them using image copyright tags. Just find the right tag corresponding to the copyright status of this image, and paste it onto the image description page like this: {{TAGHERE}}.

There are 3 basic ways to licence an image on Wikipedia:

  • The copyright holder can also release their work into the public domain. See here for examples.
  • Images from certain sources are automatically released into the public domain. This is true for the United States, where the Wikimedia servers are located. (See here for images from the government of the USA and here for other governments.) However, not all governments release their work into the public domain. One exception is the UK (see here for images from the UK government). Non-free licence governments are listed here.
  • Also, in some cases, an image is copyrighted but allowed on Wikipedia because of fair use. To see a) if this image qualifies, and b) if so, how to tag it, see Wikipedia:Fair use.

For more information, see Wikipedia:Image copyright tags. Please remember that untagged images are likely to be deleted.

If you have uploaded other images without including copyright tags, please go back and tag them. Also, please tag all images that you upload in the future.

If you have any questions, just leave a message on my talk page. Thanks again. --Admrboltz (T | C) 00:30, 11 January 2006 (UTC)

Its close enough for me, please license it as you are the copyright holder. --Admrboltz (T | C) 18:05, 13 January 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Image Tagging for Image:Alexis.JPG

Thanks for uploading Image:Alexis.JPG. The image page currently doesn't specify who created the image, so the copyright status is therefore unclear. If you have not created the image yourself then you need to indicate why we have the right to use the image on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the image yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the image also doesn't have a copyright tag then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture then you can use {{GFDL}} to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the image qualifies under Wikipedia's fair use guidelines, please read fair use, and then use a tag such as {{fairusein|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use. If you want the image to be deleted, tag it as {{db-unksource}}.

If you have uploaded other images, please check that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find a list of image pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion.

[edit] Shannyn Sossamon?

I saw your recent edit on the Law & Order: SVU article and I agree with you---this absurd habit of highlighting a name multiple times in an article really gets out of control. But, I'm not sure I quite understand your Shannyn Sossamon reference. Can you enlighten me? ---Charles 05:21, 13 June 2006 (UTC)

Hey, in case you did not see my response on my talk page, I want you to know that I appreciate the sense of humor, and hope you maintain it. Wikipedia can get frustrating, but humor sure helps. Keep up the good work. ---Charles 05:53, 13 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] The Price Is Right

Since Steve is a bit of a polarizing figure lately, I'll ask the question. What good does wikifying a year really add to the encyclopedia? Do you really expect someone's going to be reading an article and say "Hmmm... 1974? What is that? Why isn't there a link?"

I'm not trying to cause trouble, mind you. I'm just curious as to why this is something that certain members feel needs to be done. Lambertman 18:49, 25 June 2006 (UTC)

Well, you've had plenty of time to write... well... whatever that is on your userpage, but you couldn't answer me, so I'll assume that you don't even think it's worthwhile to wikify dates? Lambertman 21:52, 29 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Devon Aoki

I tried putting a request for semi-protection at WP:RFP but they turned it down. Guess it's up to editors to revert the article till the vandals get tired. Dismas|(talk) 01:32, 17 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Edit summaries

I would like to compliment you for having the most comprehensive edit summaries I've ever seen. However, I still don't understand most of them. --Liface 17:43, 26 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Vandals

Even if they are vandals, you should not call them names (even @$#). I know how you feel but aside being against WP:NPA, some vandals like the attention and it makes things worse. I agree the IP should be blocked, nonetheless. Regards, E Asterion u talking to me? 16:48, 8 September 2006 (UTC)

Sorry, I found your comments hard to follow (I think I'm too old :o)). Maybe it is just someone annoyed with you for any reason or just a random vandal. The IP has been blocked for 48 hours, so you should get some peace. Regards, E Asterion u talking to me? 17:40, 8 September 2006 (UTC)
I reported the new vandal. This should be blocked soon too. --E Asterion u talking to me? 20:18, 8 September 2006 (UTC)

I've only just recently started taking active steps against vandals. Don't know much about either of your media references but thought I'd reply out of courtesy. There were no racial slurs: just swearing.--Lucifer 16:58, 12 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Welcome!

Big shiny welcome!

Hi, and welcome to the Firefly WikiProject! As you may have guessed, we're a group of editors working to improve Firefly's coverage of topics.

A few features that you might find helpful:

There are a variety of interesting things to do within the project; you're free to participate however much—or little—you like:

  • Starting some new articles? Our style guidelines outline some things to include.
  • Want to know how good our articles are? The assessment department is working on rating the quality of every Firefly article in Wikipedia.

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask another fellow Browncoat, and we'll be happy to help you. Again, welcome! We look forward to seeing you around! Keep flyin'plange 01:39, 14 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Vandalism

I semi-protected your userpage due to all the vandalism it was getting. I can remove the offensive edits from the history if you want me to, but that's a bit of a hassle. -- Steel 15:51, 14 September 2006 (UTC)

Now your talk page is protected too. This often prevents legitimate users contacting you, so is only temporary. -- Steel 16:27, 14 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Image:WTGDMan1986.jpg

Hi WTGDMan1986. You may have noticed I deleted commons:Image:WTGDMan1986.jpg. Prestige Portraits retains the copyright to the photos they take, and even though you are the subject of the photo, you cannot claim any rights to the image. Also, it is extremely likely that Prestige Portraits had a clause specifying stating that proofs may not be reproduced or distributed.

I've deleted the image here on Wikipedia because its use would be limited to your user page, and fair use images are not allowed on user pages. Remeber that images can be undeleted, but also realize that you'd have to make a very strong argument to have it restored. Thanks. ~MDD4696 16:54, 14 September 2006 (UTC)

Thank you for deleting it. I think this was the reason why my Userpage was vandalized by Korean vandals using racist attacks. I mean, what the HECK are "flying d***s"? --D.F. "Jun Kazama Master" Williams 17:54, 14 September 2006 (UTC) 17:05, 14 September 2006 (UTC)

Sorry to jump in, but it's a shame about the racist attacks. I've received some of them myself, being a Chinese Canadian, so I can sympathize here... -→Buchanan-Hermit/?! 17:07, 14 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Talk:Dawson College shooting

Hi, I would appreciate it if you kept your comments on Talk:Dawson College shooting on topic – that is, discussing improvements to the article. In my not so humble opinion, your attempts at humour are rather inappropriate. Thanks. --Qviri (talk) 18:06, 14 September 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for helping revert the vandalism to my user page - much appreciated. Gwernol 17:02, 15 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Reporting vandalism

Thanks for the vandalism reports, but please don't go to WP:AIV unless the vandalism issue is serious for that IP. Go through the warnings as appropriate, and only if the vandal keeps on doing it, should he/she be reported. Thanks. --Nlu (talk) 17:08, 15 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Reporting vandals to WP:AIV

Hey there, fellow vandalism fighter. When you report a vandal to the Admin intervention against vandalism, they should have been issued a final warning, have vandalized after receiving that warning, and still be at it. Otherwise, I suspect the page would get clogged with random one off school boy vandals, or genuinely confused new users and real, persistent vandals would not get blocked as efficiently. Cheers Dina 17:12, 15 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] 69.27.252.245

Thanks for your message. I don't recall racial attacks by the "bored school boy", just nonsense comments about whatever teacher he had that period and fellow students, etc. He did use the word "retarded" in one edit. HGB 17:06, 19 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Racial Vandalism

I don't get it. What's the link between korean people, racial attacks and "flying ****" vandalism? Raja Lon Flattery 17:24, 25 September 2006 (UTC)
I was checking where the vandalism came from by clicking "WHOIS" for that IP. The vandalism came from someone from Korea. Then the instigators allegedly deleted stuff from my talk page and replaced it with words like "flying d****s" and racial slurs. I had to delete my picture from my Userpage because of that. --D.F. "Jun Kazama Master" Williams 20:49, 25 September 2006 (UTC)

Well, I understand that. I was wondering about the reason that drove the Koreans to such outbursts of vandalism. Raja Lon Flattery 09:02, 26 September 2006 (UTC)

Seeing that I'm African-American, they have made fun of my race, using a racial slur. (Asterion) blocked both IPs, and then one other vandal I didn't see took cues from the recent MOO vandal (by clicking WHOIS for that IP, the vandalism came from a computer from Reston, Virginia). He got blocked indefinitely. I think this was because I tried to revert their edits made to Steve Irwin and its Talkpage and tried to prevent them from making such edits by providing confusing edit summaries. So far I've been messaged twice about that (Liface couldn't understand most of my edit summaries, Theoldanarchist couldn't understand a reference I made to Shannyn Sossamon in an edit summary when I was editing Law & Order: SVU for bad grammar). I respect your concern, but I don't like it very much when people like that use demeaning racial slurs like n*****. Isn't that considered disorderly conduct? --D.F. "Jun Kazama Master" Williams 12:12, 26 September 2006 (UTC)

Don't worry. I do not tolerate these kinds of attacks either. The Koreans are hardly in position to use racial slurs. Raja Lon Flattery 19:57, 26 September 2006 (UTC)

Now Argentinan and German vandals are following examples from the Korean vandals with the racial slurs. They were blocked as I saw their IP adresses. It seems every time I log in to check for messages, the vandalism disappears. --D.F. "Jun Kazama Master" Williams 18:55, 27 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Talk pages

I have removed your comments from Talk:Platte Canyon High School shooting and Talk:Duane R. Morrison. Those comments had absolutely nothing to do with the improvement and development of the article and were just your personal opinions on the shooter. Article talk pages are for discussing improvements of the article. Thanks, Metros232 15:22, 29 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Edit summaries?

Can you please explain some of your recent edit summaries to article pages, such as: "SICK AND TIRED OF IT ALL: the McMahons and villains in real life, TV, and movies. I wish Jun Kazama would just kill them all. Add categories. THERE" or "Player 1 K.O.'ed Jun Kazama! D'oh! Announcer: Player 2 Defeated. (Added myself; can't stop laughing about D'oh! (*laughter ensues*))" or "In Keyes' honor, I have supplied the categories. I am now letting Jun Kazama beat the $#&% out of Vince and Shane McMahon for what Duane R. Morrison did. SO THERE" How are these even CLOSE to being appropriate edit summaries? Metros232 13:25, 2 October 2006 (UTC)

Metros232, I was angry with the headlines at one point (Platte Canyon High School shooting, Dawson College shooting), and then couldn't stop laughing at certain running gags (D'oh!) I heard, and tried to use a creative way to explain my edit. I apologize if this offends you, but I'm just trying to express how I feel at the point of the edit summaries. I get creative whenever I delete a vandalistic edit as well, in case you didn't notice. --D.F. "Jun Kazama Master" Williams 14:45, 2 October 2006 (UTC)
Okay, but there's no award for "creative ways to explain an edit". Edit summaries are meant to state what the edit is and that's that. This isn't about your personal feelings on an issue. It's about the edit. To be completely honest, other editors don't often care what your feelings are, what your emotional state is, what your personal interests are, etc. We care about the encyclopedia and how your edit is affecting what we have in an article or a talk page. What do Vince and Shane McMahon, Duane R. Morrison, Emily Keyes, and Jun Kazama have to do with an addition of a category to an article? If you want to express your personal feelings, leave it to your user page (which I see you've already done much of). Metros232 14:56, 2 October 2006 (UTC)
And I see you're still continuing this. Why can't you just say "reverting vandalism" instead of "Revert Alex Varkatzas and Matt Heafy following by 69.37.169.238 (Vandalism) to last version by Orz. Please do not use private parts." What do these singers have to do with the vandalism at ALL?? Also...why did you report that user for vandalism on WP:AIV if they only had ONE edit ever and you never warned them? Metros232 21:05, 2 October 2006 (UTC)
Once again, what in the heck do you need 4 edit summaries in a row that state "Add the father in "Blast". Still, pay no attention to the handsome young man Shawn Reaves entering the SVU set, mind you."?? This has NOTHING to do with your edits and EVERYTHING to do with your interests. Metros232 16:48, 12 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Personal attacks

Please see Wikipedia's no personal attacks policy. Comment on content, not on the contributor; personal attacks damage the community and deter users. Note that continued personal attacks may lead to blocks for disruption. Please stay cool and keep this in mind while editing. Thank you. This is in reference to your edit summary: REVERT Vandalism by a lunatic to last version by Lid. PLEASE do not refer to skate punk kids as rich kids on LSD. at this edit [1]. Also, please note that your revert was inappropriate. "Rich Kids on LSD" is the name of a band, it wasn't put in as a description of skater kids. Metros232 17:01, 3 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Assume good faith

You removed this comment as being vandalism. That was a message left on your talk page regarding an older message you left on user Asterion's talk page. I meant no malice whatsoever and your action was rude and disrespectful although it is your right to remove anything but warning on your talk page. However, you always tend to assume bad faith, as this was the case, and this will lead you only to conflicts. And you can get ride of those userboxes: "this user is polite" and "this user wants to be your friend" i saw on your userpage since, obviously, they do not mirror the real you. Ko Jumong 12:10, 6 October 2006 (UTC)

One more thing: with this attitude, no wonder people vandalize your page. Ko Jumong 16:13, 6 October 2006 (UTC)

What you can do:

  • De-stub Colorado stubs.

[edit] Ellen DeGeneres

Hello! I blocked the IP vandal of the above page but I haven't placed it under protection. The history of the page doesn't show rapid, repeated vandalism in a short space of time. If it does so then there may be a case for semi-protection. If you think that it should be semi-protected right now then you can make a case for this at WP:ANB. Regards, (aeropagitica) 18:19, 16 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Felony vandalism

You just referred to something as "felony vandalism." I'm uncertain what you mean by that, and would caution against the phrase - it's both a violation of WP:AGF and awfully close to a legal threat. Phil Sandifer 18:50, 16 October 2006 (UTC)

Yes, but it wasn't vandalizing the main page - it was the talk page. And also, indefinite blocks != felonies. Phil Sandifer 18:54, 16 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Vertical Lists

Eh, I'm on the fence about your edit to my userpage (though I totally don't mind or anything.) I usually use asterixes for longer lists -- for a brief list of things (like pages I'm trying to remind myself to work on) a horizontal list takes up less space and let's me see my whole user page at once. But it's totally a work in progress and I'm going to leave it your way for a while and see what I think about it. Cheers! Dina 19:07, 16 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Removing semi-protection

Hi. I've removed the semi-protection on your talk page. I know that vandalism of talk pages can be a problem, but it's important that users be able to be contacted by newbies with questions and concerns about things they don't understand. I hope you understand - please feel free to contact me with any questions. Phil Sandifer 19:28, 16 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Taichung City

I am new on WikiProject Cities. I have added considerable content to the first city I am working on, which happens to be the city of my residence, Taichung City. Would you mind taking a few minutes to look it over and leave comments on how you think I can make it better to bring it up to WikiProject Cities standards in a section of the discussion page for the city’s article page that I have set up.

Thank you. Ludahai 03:58, 17 October 2006 (UTC)

Thanks a lot for the nomination to administrator status. I'm not sure I deserve it yet, but I definately appreciate the vote of confidence. Remember 16:32, 31 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Hint (Sonic 2)

"Due to my recent hatred for vandalism, I am training to become a Wikipedia administrator. If you would like, kindly leave suggestions on how I can work my way to achieving this life goal."

Try to avoid edits like this because both the edit _and_ the summary let you look like a fool. --32X 18:31, 15 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Recent additions to WP:AIV

I hate vandalism and I hate vandals, but unless I missed something, it isn't really proper procedure to report users after giving them a single warning, and then not waiting for them to vandalize again. Vandalism after the final warning is one of the criteria that is supposed to be satisfied before listing them on WP:AIV... --Onorem 17:08, 27 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Inappropriate edit summaries

For about the 3rd or 4th time, PLEASE stop with the inappropriate edit summaries and reports to WP:AIV. Stop categorizing things as "John Cena edits" or "Vince MacMahon like vandalism" or "children". Such comments are completely inappropriate. Please simply state something like "revert vandalism" without adding your own comments. Thanks, Metros232 18:13, 28 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Userpage Content Removed

I removed a large amount of content from your page, as it appeared you were using your user page to write a story. You do have a decent degree of latitude when it comes to your userpage, but the excessive irrelevant content does not belong on Wikipedia. Perhaps you should put them on one of your finely-crafted personal websites. Thanks. -- tariqabjotu 22:52, 29 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Wheel of Fortune

I restored the last names of the show's record holders. If the first names are relevant, so are the last names (mostly taken from the show's official records), and contrary to your edit comment, some of us DO care about the last names, for the sake of historical completeness. If you'd like to discuss this, I'd be happy to. JTRH 15:54, 6 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Warning at User talk:22113letitsnow

Aloha, WTGDMan. Good intentions with your warning at User talk:22113letitsnow, but I don't think that this template was the way to go. The "You are potentially offending people" line is just confusing given the context, and blanking a talk page is never the way to go unless we're dealing with an indefinitely blocked user, which letitsnow is not at this moment. Remember to assume good faith; the kids on that page had never been told that their behavior was inappropriate. Cheers, A Train take the 14:38, 15 December 2006 (UTC)

Although I appreciate your help in keeping an eye on 22113letitsnow, it didn't do us any good for you to delete their comments as vandalism. Other admins might have different opinions on this, but by removing their talk page comments and leaving only our warnings, it appears at a glance that I've indef blocked a user for no reason whatsoever. "Vandalism" is hard to define on talk pages, but what they were doing (although certainly not appropriate) was not vandalism. Your edit summaries are also a little harsh. I see from your user page that you'd like to be an admin. One of the single biggest criteria for adminship is keeping a cool head. Making rash edit summaries and coming up with theories that blame minor celebrities for orchestrating vandalism don't demonstrate that quality. Try to take it a little easier. Thanks again for your help, though. A Train take the 15:31, 15 December 2006 (UTC)
