WSXGA Wide XGA+
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
A screen resolution of 1440×900 is best described as WSXGA or WXGA+.
It has an aspect ratio of 16:10/8:5 (widescreen), which is one of the lesser used aspect ratios, and a resolution falling between that of WXGA and WSXGA+, and can thus be thought of as either being an enhanced WXGA (e.g. WXGA+), or a widescreen version of SXGA (e.g. WSXGA), with which it shares nearly the same number of total pixels.
This tidies up the taxonomy of video modes by providing a resolution corresponding to the hitherto undefined 'WSXGA' (Widescreen SXGA) designation, though arguably that label might better apply to 1600×1024.
Apple Computer's 15" MacBook Pro and 17" iMac have such a display. Acer Inc. sells a 19" widescreen LCD monitor with this native resolution, the 1913W. The 1913W manual labels its resolution of 1440×900 as WXGA, although this should probably more appropriately designated as WSXGA / WXGA+, being clearly a level higher in terms of resolution. The newer 1916W manual and box use the WXGA+ label.
HP Compaq sells a 17" model of their HP Pavilion dv8200 Notebook with this resolution, both with BrightView and BrightView Dual lamps. Additionally, the Toshiba Qosmio 17" G15 models have a native resolution of 1440x900, as does the 17" Toshiba Satellite Pro P100. Dell's E1405 or Inspiron 640m notebooks have an option for a WXGA+ screen along with assorted Latitude models (D620). Lenovo's Z61t notebook also offers a WXGA+ option. Xerox sells a 19" LCD with this resolution. AOC sells a 19" widescreen LCD display with this native resolution, the 193FW. Acer also sells their Aspire 9301, which also boasts this resolution. Samsung also has its version, the 940BW. In addition, HannStar's North American division, Hanns-G, markets two different monitors with this resolution - the HW191D, in black or white. In addition, Viewsonic sells a 19" Monitor, the VA1912wb, at this native resolution.
