My name is Writerchick (also known as Cynthia) and I'm a former "career student" (B.A. honours from Queen's University and a M.Ed (which doesn't have a template!) from the University of Toronto who is now working in the real world. SI joined Wikipedia while surfing the Internet and have been interested since. I lurked a bit at first, but made a new year's resolution to contribute more to Wikipedia. I have since written a few articles and have edited too. I enjoy writing and blogging (I have a Live Journal), and even had an article published in the Toronto Star in late 2004. I am currently putting the finishing touches on my first novel.
I've spent most of my life here in Toronto, Ontario, except for a year in Bermuda and four years of university at Queen's in Kingston. Although I consider myself a native English speaker, I actually did not learn the language until I was in junior kindergarten (age 4). However, English is my most comfortable language, and the language that I am most proficient in. I understand and can still speak Cantonese, but I will speak English unless the person I am speaking with can only speak Cantonese. My parents both speak English, but never taught me as a child, as they both held full time jobs. I was raised by my grandmother.
I took piano lessons as a child, and voice lessons in high school and university. I was originally admitted to Queen's as a Bachelor of Music student for voice, but decided to change. In high school, I was involved in theatre, sang in the choir, was a member of the multi-cultural club (until I had an argument with one of the members when I wanted to sing folk songs and opera at a multi-cultural talent show and was told not to. The organizers wanted to limit it to hip hop for some weird reason.)
