Wrestling Society X (WSX) is a professional wrestling show created in 2006 by Kevin Kleinrock and Big Vision Entertainment, in association with MTV. WSX is currently only considered to be a "show" rather than a full fledged promotion. On July 8, 2006, Wrestling Society X was picked up for a full season by MTV.

[edit] History and style

WSX was supposedly created to appease MTV's preference to the more polished, wrestling-focused product of Total Non-Stop Action Wrestling, which airs on Spike TV (a Viacom network, who also owns MTV). The style of WSX is focused on having an "intentionally "underground" look, which is represented through the set-up of a ratty ring with no apron and rag stuffed turnbuckles. The show is also intended to appear more like a reality show, especially with regard to its interview segments. Another notable difference between WSX and other wrestling promotions is that WSX will have live bands playing during shows.

The WSX pilot was taped on February 10, 2006, and all wrestlers who participated in the first show were forced to sign an agreement stating that they will be part of a whole season on MTV if the show happened to be picked up. Wrestler Delirious refused to sign the agreement (due to landing a deal with TNA Wrestling), and the scheduled Dark matches were cut in the days leading up to the taping. Despite the minimal conflict and the cancelation of the dark matches, the pilot featured a "WSX Rumble" (a Battle Royal/Tables, Ladders, and Chairs combination) with two contracts hung above the ring to determine who would be in the first ever WSX Championship match. Sean Waltman and Vampiro obtained the contracts, and Black Label Society were the featured band that played throughout the pilot.

WSX taped its first season of shows between November 11th & November 16th, 2006 to air on MTV January 30 at 10:30 ET and 10:30 PT.
