WRCR-AM
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
WRCR-AM 1300 broadcasts from the Nanuet Mall in Nanuet, New York. The station provides information for the Rockland County area. It broadcasts mainly adult contemporary music on weekdays, while brokering much of its airtime on Saturdays and Sundays.
This is the only station providing information specific to Rockland County. Its predecessor, WRKL-AM of nearby New City, switched to an all-Polish format on March 18, 1999.

[edit] Frequency
As of December 2006, WRCR broadcasted a 500-watt signal by day and 83 watts by night. The station has solicited listeners to petition the Federal Communications Commission to grant it a license to increase power to 10,000 watts (1,000 watts at night) by moving to the AM 1700 frequency, which would allow WRCR to be heard throughout all of Rockland, as the current 1300 frequency reaches only about half the county. In August 2006, the Federal Communications Commission opened a filing period for WRCR and any prospective competitors seeking to use the AM 1700 slot.
[edit] Personalities
The radio personalities on the station include Steve Possell, Sophia Salis, Jason Lambro, Blaise Gomez, George Dacre, Frank DiCosimo and the weatherman Mark Hanok. Craig Shenkman, the traffic reporter, delivers reports from Metro Traffic.
[edit] Contests
WRCR hosts various contests. Many of the prizes given away include tickets to the Westchester Broadway Theatre, lottery tickets, and tickets to various county events. In one of the contests, listeners act like Mark Hanok.
[edit] Morning Drive Show
The Morning Drive Show (also refered to as the "Steve and Sofia Show") is hosted by Steve Possell and Sofia Salis. Many listeners, including a few "regulars", call into the show and discuss various topics. Issues discussed range from illegal immigration and concerns in government to daily topics brought up by the hosts (i.e. A topic brought up by Steve about the best inventions and ones we could manage without).
