WPXC (FM)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

WPXC is an FM radio station serving the Cape Cod market on 102.9 MHz. The station is owned by Nassau Broadcasting and broadcasts a rock format.

WPXC signed on in 1987 as the first station owned by Al Makkay and his company, Makkay Broadcasting. The station quickly adopted a rock format, known as Pixy 103, which it retains to this day. In 2003, Makkay Broadcasting was sold to Frank Osborn, who utilized WPXC and the other Makkay stations to create Qantum Communications.

In 2005, Qantum acquired the stations of Boch Broadcasting on Cape Cod. In order to gain approval to acquire Boch Broadcasting, Qantum was required to sell three of the companies stations. WPXC, along with Boch's WDVT and WTWV, were sold to Nassau Broadcasting at the end of the year.

Pixy 103 was the long time Cape Cod affiliate for The Howard Stern Show. However, following Stern's move to satellite radio, the station began airing Rover's Morning Glory on February 13, 2006. As of November 2006, the station now airs Opie and Anthony as its morning radio program.
