WPKX first signed on in 1992 and has been Country ever since. Airs a classic country show on Sunday mornings.
It was owned by SFX Broadcasting in the late 1990's, then Capstar, AMFM owned it briefly before being acquired by Clear Channel in 2000. It is now owned by Clear Channel Communications.
The station has an HD Radio HD-2 station broadcasting Americana music since early-2006.
