[edit] Usage
The {{WPFC}} project banner template should be added (not subst:ed) to the talk page of every article within the scope of the Former Countries WikiProject. While the template does not require any additional parameters, it has a number of optional ones that add various extra features to the banner. The full syntax is as follows:
[edit] Syntax
{{WPFC |class= |auto= |history-portal= |geography-portal= |structureneeded= |flagneeded= |coatneeded= |mapneeded= |infoboxneeded= |imageneeded= |imagedetails= |attention= |A-Class= |peer-review= |old-peer-review= |collaboration-candidate= |past-collaboration= |HRE-taskforce= }}
[edit] Use in practice
{{WPFC |class=A <!-- FA, A, GA, B, Start, Stub, Cat, Dab, Structure, Template, List, NA or Needed --> |auto=yes <!-- I.e. only use this if 1) you're operating a bot and --> <!-- 2) rating articles as "stub-class" based --> <!-- solely on the precense of a stub template. --> |history-portal=May 2006 <!-- (FA only). The month it was featured on the History portal --> |geography-portal=May 2006 <!-- (FA only). The month it was featured on the Geography portal --> |structureneeded=yes <!-- Please only use lowercase. --> |flagneeded=yes <!-- Please only use lowercase. --> |coatneeded=yes <!-- Please only use lowercase. --> |mapneeded=yes <!-- Please only use lowercase. --> |infoboxneeded=yes <!-- Please only use lowercase. --> |attention=yes <!-- Immediate attention required. Needed by some bots. --> |A-Class=pass <!-- Pass, fail or current [nominee]. Can be used --> <!-- if an A-Class review is implemented --> |peer-review=yes <!-- Need more input on your article? --> <!-- Ask others to comment on it --> |old-peer-review=yes <!-- If this procedure has already taken place --> |collaboration-candidate=yes <!-- If we create a collaboration of the fortnight system --> |past-collaboration=September 2006 <!-- The month this took place --> |HRE-taskforce= yes <!-- If the article is covered by the Holy Roman Empire taskforce --> }}
General parameters:
- class – a rating of the article's quality; see Wikipedia:WikiProject Former countries/Assessment for more details. Valid values are:
- FA - The article has reached Featured article status.
- A - Could be submitted as a Featured article candidate; probably could use some small updates to make it Featured quality.
- GA - The article has reached Good article status.
- B - Could be submitted as a Good article nominee; probably could use some updates or may lack some features from the Good article criteria, but it presents a good overview of the subject.
- Start - The article is more than a stub, but may lack some important aspects of the topic's discussion.
- Stub - The article is a stub; it likely contains one of the former countries stub templates.
- Needed - The article does not yet exist but has been identified as a subject that should be covered OR the article is currently just a redirect.
- NA - The page is not an article and should not be rated. This class has a number of sub-categories:
- Cat - Category
- Dab - Disambiguation
- Structure - Categories formed by WPFC infoboxes
- Template - Templates such as infoboxes and navbars
- List - Pages containing only a list of some sort
Maintenance parameters (set it to "yes" to include it):
- Needed features
- structureneeded - The article requires restructuring; adds articles to Category:Former country articles requiring restructuring
- infoboxneeded - The article requires an infobox; adds articles to Category:Former country articles requiring an infobox
- Needed images
- flagneeded - The article needs a flag; adds articles to Category:Heraldry and vexillology articles needing images and Category:Former country articles requiring a flag.
- coatneeded - The article needs a coat of arms; adds articles to Category:Heraldry and vexillology articles needing images and Category:Former country articles requiring a coat of arms.
- mapneeded - The article needs a map; adds articles to Category:Wikipedia requested maps and Former country articles requiring a map
To avoid needlessly cluttering up talk pages, it is usually appropriate to remove any unused parameters from the template.
[edit] Notes
- Please use lowercase forms.. The uppercase forms generally do not work.
- A few redlink categories need fixing to get the Portal / Review functions working.
- The image request feature is listed "below the fold" when used. If people feel this is a problem, please let me know.
- Please report any other errors if you see them.
[edit] Credit where it is due
This template is largely based on the excellent {{WikiProject Heraldry and vexillology}}, {{WPBeatles}} and {{WP Australia}} banners.
