The villains in the Japanese tokusatsu series Kamen Rider Kabuto are called Worms, alien life forms that came from a meteor that destroyed the city of Shibuya seven years prior to the series' time line. However, the Worms known as Natives existed prior to the coming of the Shibuya Meteorite.

[edit] Background

Worms blend into the human population by copying the face of their victims along with their memories before killing them. Their ability to copy an identity seems to be only limited by the fact that they must have had contact with them in the first place. However, they lack the ability to copy human scents, such as the smell of perfume. Their first form, the pupa form named Salis, looks like a chrysalis, but when threatened, the creatures can "molt" into more powerful forms, enabling them to move at blinding speeds. Apparently, they do not need to naturally molt, as evidenced when Tendou (in Masked Form) shattered Bellcricetusworm's "cocoon" skin with the Avalanche Break. It is possible for them to revert to their first form too even if they have molted. Worms take pleasure in stealing human identities and use their multiple gained faces to blend in with the human population. In addition, if their victim survives their attack and they cross paths with him/her again, they immediately go into a violent temperament in order to "finish the job." When a Worm is destroyed, it explodes in its predominant color.

The main motifs of the Worms are Arthropods, specifically insects. The executives are the only Worms with non-insects motifs. Rena Mamiya/Ucaworm, Cammarusworm, Substworm, and Reiji Nogi/Cassisworm are all crustacean-type Worms. The Cochleaworm is surprisingly a mollusk (a gastropod).

[edit] Shibuya Meteorite

A mysterious meteorite that crashed into Shibuya 7 years ago, this meteorite brought along the extra-terrestrial creatures known as Worms. The background of the Shibuya Meteorite is explained in episode 41. Riku Kagami explains that another meteorite carrying the Natives arrived on Earth 35 years ago, explaining why fragments of the meteorite existed before the Shibuya Meteorite. These Natives that arrived worked with humans to create the Masked Rider System in order to fend off the threat of alien Worms that would arrive later.

[edit] Special Worms

Among the Worms appeared on the series there are some special Worms. A stronger type of pupa Worm appears with white skin instead of the usual green in episode 14. This "White Worm", also known as Albinoworm, was destroyed by Drake's Rider Shooting.

[edit] Executive Worms

The upper class of Worm, Executives almost always take on the form of a woman dressed in black, except for Reiji Nogi.

  • Rena Mamiya/Ucaworm (25-40): The first executive leader Worm to appear during episode 25. She has several executive subordinates as her followers. Three of these subordinates (Cammarusworm, Cochleaworm, and Substworm) are shown in their Worm form. The two other subordinates only appear in their human form during episode 37, testing Tendou's ability to fight without the Hyper Zecter. Instead of being defeated at the hands of the Hyper Zecter, they were destroyed by Tendou's newly acquired Perfect Zecter. Ucaworm was destroyed by Drake's Double Rider Shooting, although he did it with a heavy heart because he had fallen in love with her human form.
  • Reiji Nogi/Cassisworm (41-?): After Ucaworm destroyed, an even stronger executive leader Worm known as Reiji Nogi/Cassisworm appears along with six more subordinate executives in episode 41. There are 3 clones of Reiji Nogi, each has natural fighting ability and a unique power of his own.
    • First Reiji Nogi (41-44): The first clone of Reiji Nogi is Cassisworm Dimidius. His unique power is "Freeze" or ability to stop the flow of time to the point in which even the power of Hyper Clock Up is purposeless. He was defeated by Hyper Kabuto and evolve into Cassisworm Gladius. His power in this stronger form is advanced into the ability to absorb other Worms and tachyon energy to gain their powers. He was destroyed by Hyper Kabuto.
    • Second Reiji Nogi (44-?): The second clone of Reiji Nogi. His unique power is still unknown.
    • Third Reiji Nogi (44-?): The third clone of Reiji Nogi. His unique power is still unknown.

[edit] Natives

A Native, a Worm that arrived on Earth 35 years ago through a meteor that predated the Shibuya Meteorite, appears in episode 35. Tachikawa Daigo, along with all the over Natives have a power to summon any Zecter they wish, even with the henshin device attached. This is due to the fact that the Natives were the ones that created the Masked Rider System, giving them to humans to protect them from the other Worms. This power is shown as Daigo uses both the Sasword Zecter and Drake Zecter, summoning them with the Sasword Yaiber and Drake Grip already attached. Daigo is the first Native appeared, meeting his doom at the hands of Cochleaworm. However, massive amounts of Natives begin appearing in episode 41. ZECT gave a mission to Todokoro to evacuate the Natives in the area, while the ZECT Troopers unleash the AMB (Anti-Mimic Bomb) to unmask all Worms attempting to blend in with humans. Tadokoro was accidentally affected by AMB forcing him back into a Native. Sisyraworm who was born from a Native mother is so far the only Native Worm that has been shown out of pupa form.
