Worldchanging

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

WorldChanging is an extremely popular bright green environmentalism blog which covers environmental, humanitarian and design issues. It is "solutions-based journalism" covering "tools, models and ideas" for building a better future and eschewing traditional news and criticism.

Launched in October, 2003, it features a global team of writers including Jamais Cascio, Alex Steffen, Geoff Manaugh. Jon Lebkowsky, Dawn Danby, Cameron Sinclair, Ethan Zuckerman, Chad Monfreda, Regine Debatty, Jeremy Feludi, Nicole-Anne Boyer, David Zaks, Mikki Krimmel, Emily Gertz, Joel Makower, Dina Mehta, Seth Zuckerman, Hana Loftus and Alan AtKisson. Many of these writers were part of the Viridian Design Movement. In January 2005, it won the Utne Independent Press Award and was later nominated for a Webby award for best weblog (losing out to BoingBoing), and a Bloggie award for Best Group Weblog. Wired columnist Bruce Sterling has called Worldchanging "the most important website on the planet."

Worldchanging is headquartered in Seattle, Washington, and is a non-profit organization. It is edited by Alex Steffen, and its managing editor is Sarah Rich, who also co-founded the green design blog Inhabitat with Jill Fehrenbacher.

The group also has published a book Worldchanging: A User's Guide for the 21st Century, which covers much of the same ground and has a foreword written by Al Gore. Denis Hayes has said "Worldchanging might well be the most complete, compelling articulation of the possible look and feel and actual operation of a sustainable society ever written."
