World U-17 hockey challenge

The World U-17 Hockey Challenge is an international ice hockey tournament held in Canada. It is normally held either annually, or bi-annually. It is organized by Hockey Canada and is the first major international competition for male hockey players under the age of 17. Hockey Canada considers participating in this tournament to be an important step in player development for the U18 and National Junior Team.

Originally called the Quebec Esso Cup, this tournament was first held in 1986. It became unofficially known as the world championship of Midget-level hockey. In 1992, the name was officially changed to the World Hockey Challenge.
