World Extreme Cagefighting
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
World Extreme Cagefighting (WEC) is an American mixed martial arts (MMA) promotion. It is considered a development promotion for MMA fighters, leading to major MMA promotions like the Ultimate Fighting Championship. WEC fights are frequently aired in high definition on HDNet.
In December 2006, it was reported that Zuffa, parent company of the Ultimate Fighting Championship, had purchased the WEC. [1] With the purchase, the WEC will continue as a separate promotion with its own roster of fighters, but the WEC will abandon their pentagonal cage for the UFC's eight-sided octagonal arena.
