Aftermath: World Trade Center Archive

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Following the destruction of the World Trade Center during the events of September 11, 2001, Joel Meyerowitz became the only photographer to have continued access to the site and record its transformation over the next nine months from a scene of devastation to cleared land.

As the most comprehensive photographic record of the clean-up process, Meyerowitz’s images serve as an important historical record of the aftermath of the destruction of the Twin Towers in New York. His archive includes many on-site portraits of police officers, firefighters, construction workers, engineers and volunteers.

To mark the fifth anniversary of the September 11 attacks, many of Meyerowitz’s photographs were published in a book entitled Aftermath: World Trade Center Archive by Phaidon Press, containing many previously unpublished images and his personal account of the experience.
