Womad Charlton Park
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Womad Charlton Park is the name given to the WOMAD festival to be held in the U.K, replacing Womad Reading, which ended in 2006.
The first festival is scheduled to take place on 27 July to 29 July 2007 in Charlton Park in Malmesbury, Wiltshire.
The WOMAD festival in the U.K had been held in Reading, Berkshire since 1990, until the announcement was made on 4 October 2006 that the festival in 2006 was to be the final one. On 19 October, it was announced that the replacement festival would be held on the same dates as the Womad Reading festival was due to, but in Malmesbury in Wiltshire.
In the same press conference, five of the artists/bands appearing at the 2007 festival were confirmed. These are:
- Baaba Maal
- Dhol Foundation
- Steel Pulse
- Sam Tshabalala
- Billy Cobham
Peter Gabriel has also mentioned several times some hints of his appearance at the festival, saying "I'll be playing but I may be playing the fool" and that he is "intending to do something there myself", which may be because of the 25th anniversary.
