Wolli Creek railway station is in the Sydney suburb of Wolli Creek, on the Sydney CityRail network serves two lines, the Illawarra Line and Airport and East Hills Line. The two lines intersect at almost right angles with the Illawarra line on the surface, and the Airport-East Hills line below ground level, though open to the sky. Lifts and stairs connect the platforms and the station entrance, as this is an Easy Access station.
The station was built as part of the new Airport link. It was originally named North Arncliffe, but was renamed to Wolli Creek in 1998, before it opened in 2000.
[edit] Airport and East Hills Line
All trains via the airport stop at Wolli Creek. These depart on Platform 1 to City and Platform 2 to Macarthur.
All trains from Wolli Creek towards the Airport and City are all-stop trains, and almost all trains terminating at East Hills are also all-stop services. Trains terminating at Campbelltown and Macarthur are typically limited-stop services, most stopping at Kingsgrove, Riverwood, Padstow, East Hills then all stations to Campelltown or Macathur railway stations.
[edit] Eastern Suburbs and Illawarra Line
3 in 4 all-stop trains stop at Wolli Creek because Tempe is nearly next to Wolli Creek. 1 in 3 limited-stop trains stop at Wolli Creek during peak.
All Eastern Suburbs and Illwarra Line trains stop at Wolli Creek during the off-peak, with the exception of a few late-night and early-morning trains.
These depart from Platform 3 to Bondi Junction and Platform 4 to Waterfall/Cronulla.
[edit] South Coast Line
In the previous 2005 timetable, only one train from Thirroul stops at Wolli Creek, although nothing else. In the current 2006 timetable, all off-peak trains to/from Kiama, Dapto, Port Kembla and Wollongong will stop at Wolli Creek, departing from Platform 3 or 4. The main reason these intercity services will now stop at Wolli Creek is to provide a better link to the airport for South Coast passengers.
