Wolfach lies where the 2 rivers Wolfach and Kinzig meet in the Kinzig valley. The mixture of valleys and mountains is characteristic for the city, which stretches between 250 and 880 m above sea level.

The exact foundation year of Wolfach is not known. The history of the city Wolfach can be shown until the year 1148. Some finds even point to the Roman times.
