WOKV AM 690, (simulcast on 106.5 FM) is a news-talk radio station in Jacksonville, Florida. During the 1950s,1960s,1970s,and early 1980s this frequency was the original home to legendary Top 40 station WAPE, who migrated to the 95.1 frequency which had formerly been Urban WJAX in 1986. The 47th largest radio market in the U.S. WOKV has been at or near the top of the markets ratings since a small format change in 2001.[citation needed] The station lineup includes Jacksonville's Morning News, Neal Boortz, Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity and Clark Howard, plus Jaguars programing as the flagship station of the city's National Football League team. WOKV is owned by Cox Communications of Atlanta, who also owns WFYV, WJGL, WMXQ and WAPE, all FM stations in Jacksonville.
WOKV is the only AM radio station in the Jacksonville market to remain in the top 10 in the Arbitron ratings since 1996.
In 2006, the station upgraded its nighttime signal to 25 kWz and also added a simulcast on 106.5 FM, formely WBGB, making it one of the first News-Talk stations in the country to simulcast on both bands, joining, most notably, WWL AM and FM in New Orleans. They were followed by WHIO in Dayton, Ohio, who began simulcasting in October of 2006.
