WNJX-TV is a full-power television station in Mayagüez, Puerto Rico transmitting over analog channel 22, digital 23. WNJX-TV is owned by LIN TV.
[edit] History
During the 1980s and 1990s, WNJX-TV's 120 kW signal was only able to cover metro Mayagüez, nevertheless it became a satellite for WLII. The station lost its programming from WLII when WLII switched to WORA-TV, and it's unknown what the station brocadcast until it became a satellite for WAPA-TV. When LIN TV purchased the station, the company built a new transmitter on Monte del Estado and augmented its ERP to 4201 kW. Now WNJX-TV covers about 80% of Puerto Rico's western coast. This helped WAPA-TV regain it's position as a major Puerto Rican station.
On October 19, 2006 LIN TV announced that it has entered into an agreement to sell its Puerto Rico television operations to InterMedia Partners, L.P. for $130 million in cash.[1]
[edit] Programming
WNJX-TV currently serves as a satellite for WAPA-TV and simulcasts 100% of its programing. The station does have a small studio in Aguada which is used to produce news segments for WAPA-TV's Noticentro 4. These segments are entitled Noticentro 4: Sur y Oeste and are similar to WORA-TV's and WOLE-TV's news offerings. However, unlike the former western stations, the news segments produced at WNJX-TV can be seen all across Puerto Rico.
