[edit] History

WNCT signed on the air on December 22, 1953, making it the first television station in eastern North Carolina. It was a part-time ABC affiliate until WNBE-TV, now WCTI, signed on from New Bern in 1963. [2] The station also carried programming from the now-defunct DuMont Television Network.[3]

Until 1997, WNCT was the flagship station of Roy H. Park Communications Inc. CBS programming was seen in the Wilmington area on WNCT-TV, WFMY-TV, WRAL-TV and WBTW-TV until low-powered WILM-LP in Wilmington affiliated with CBS in 2000. WNCT-TV and those other stations still serve some parts of the Wilmington market that don't get WILM-LP's signal over the air or on cable.

[edit] The CW

In September of 2006, WNCT's DT2 digital subchannel began serving as the area's affiliate for The CW. The CW subchannel is known as "Eastern North Carolina's CW". WNCT DT2 offers The Daily Buzz newscast weekday mornings from 6 to 9 AM.

WNCT's newscasts are branded under the popular Eyewitness News label. The station delays the weekday broadcast of The Early Show until 8 AM and airs an extra hour of local news instead. The station's radar is called "Live VIPIR 9".
