WMTS-FM is the student-run radio station at Middle Tennessee State University in Murfreesboro, Tennessee. It operates at a frequency of 88.3 MHz. The station features several different formats of music, with an emphasis on independent music acts.

[edit] Mission statement

WMTS provides Middle Tennessee State University and the Murfreesboro community with alternative music, news, and public affairs programming. WMTS is paid for and operated by the students of MTSU. The station has two main purposes:

1) To provide informational, cultural and alternative music programming to Middle Tennessee.

2) To train students for future broadcasting careers through the offering of hands on experience, training and internships

WMTS strives to provide an alternative to Murfreesboro's commercial radio stations.

Features 80s and 90s lesser known bands with a section titled Mom's Stash which featured a different song from the record collection of Belinda Mitchell every week.

Under the Influence -Summer 2006-present

Saturdays from 6 to 8 pm

Host: Adam Broman

Features the best in new and old indie, rock, and alternative country.

UTI features a new band each week and some of the bands that have influenced them

Themed half hour at the top of the 7:00 hour.

The Big Rome Show - 1997-2001

Originally 6:00-8:00 AM, moved to 8:00-10:00 AM in January of 2000

Hosts:

DJ Squiggy: 1999-2001

Featured popular generas such as Dirt Rock Wednesdays and Old School Fridays

Other regulars included Pic the Perv Man, Injun John, Intern Andy and The Creepy Goth Guy

- Note: During Eaton's tenure, the show was known as Apathetic Variety. The Big Rome Show became the title after DJ Squiggy supposedly exchanged naming rights for a Big Mac, giving Big Rome full artistic control.

[edit] Drivetime Show "Bumper2Bumper"

In Spring 2006, the management of WMTS announced plans to create a drivetime radio show in order to better serve the Middle Tennessee area. The show airs Monday through Friday from 4:00 to 6:00 pm on 88.3 WMTS-FM and on www.wmts.org.
