[edit] Plot introduction

Halo has been destroyed, and the threat it posed to sentient life, neutralized. But victory has come at a terrible cost for the UNSC. Thousands of valiant soldiers fell in the battle to prevent the alien construct from falling into the enemy's clutches.

Now, everything depends on the Spartan known as the "Master Chief." Yet even with the aid of the artificial intelligence Cortana, the Master Chief will be hard-pressed to rescue survivors and evade the Covenant ships patrolling the remains of Halo in debris-strewn space.

Ahead lies a dangerous voyage home, through a gauntlet of Covenant forces. For the sake of all, the Master Chief and his war-torn squad must not only survive, but take the fight to the enemy with a decisive first strike.

[edit] Plot summary

[edit] Section 0: Reach

During the fight for Reach, the last line of defense for the United Nations Space Command is represented by the defense platforms that are orbiting the planet. The defense platforms each house a massive coilgun known to soldiers as the "super MAC gun" [sic]. The weapons are capable of tearing holes clean through Covenant capital ships.

Because the MACs are Reach's last line of defense, the Master Chief sends a team of Spartans to the surface to protect the MACs fusion generators at all costs. However, the Covenant begin to bombard the planet with plasma, effectively destroying the planetside generators and rendering the MACs useless. The Spartan strike team is forced to retreat underground into a top-secret ONI base as Reach burns around them. While underground, the team stumbles upon an ancient Forerunner artifact, which seems capable of bending time and space. They retrieve the object and wait patiently for rescue.

[edit] Section 1: Threshold

Meanwhile, the Master Chief and Cortana are stranded in space, orbiting Threshold amongst the debris of the now-destroyed Halo orbital.
