WLGH is a non-commercial, contemporary Christian FM radio station located in Lansing, Michigan. The station which broadcasts on 88.1 is owned by Superior Communications (aka Michigan Community Radio and Northland Community Broadcasters) which is in turn owned by Jennifer and Edward Czelada.
The station is officially licensed to Leroy Township just east of Lansing. It's studios and transmitter are in Williamston. WLGH began broadcasting in 1996 as The Light. In June of 2004 it married its sister stations which were known as Joy FM in a ceremony at Oldsmobile Park in Lansing. The new network became known as Smile FM with WLGH as the flagship station. All programming for the 12 stations in the Smile FM network originate at WLGH.
The station originally broadcast with 2.5kw at 328', but increased its power to 6.7kw from a 571' tower in 2006. This improved coverage, especially to the north and south of Lansing.
[edit] Repeater
In July of 2006 WJOM began broadcasting from a cell tower in Eagle, just west of Lansing as a 10kw repeater of the WLGH signal. While holding the promise of expanding coverage to the west, as of late 2006 the station was still operating at reduced power and merely overlapping a portion of the coverage area of WLGH.
