I used to live near Durham, NC, and have been to Kathleen Lake fishing many times. 95 goes over the lake for the same reason 85 goes over Falls and Gaston Lakes (VA/NC), and US 15 goes over Buggs Island Lake (VA). You can't run a highway around a lake if you're going to kill a town in the process. Running 95 west of the lake would have killed Shawnville, and running 95 east of the lake would have killed McBratney and possibly Briehl. These towns were founded >= 100 years ago, while 95 went through in the '60s. The current bridge over Kathleen Lake *is* bad; in fact, the Highway Patrol will ticket anyone over 45,000 pounds trying to cross it (if they catch them first - my brother drives a truck for Libbey Washington Birthing Gowns and he's crossed the thing probably 20 times in the last year, weighing nearly 70,000 lb). There's supposed to be a new bridge by 2008-2010. There's a good article about Kathleen Lake in Blount's "Navigable Waters of Down East Carolina", and according to the NC Coordinate Grid system, the center of Kathleen Lake lies in grid 66-41-132, about 2.5 miles west of the 105 mile marker on 95. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 128.192.134.50 (talk • contribs) .

I see something called "Tar River Reservoir" in that area. Is that the same thing? Or nearby? Do you have a latitude and longitude? —Wknight94 (talk) 23:30, 14 February 2006 (UTC)
