Witch Doctor is a song written by Ross Bagdasarian (a.k.a. David Seville) in 1958, that was covered by several bands, including Sha Na Na and the Cartoons. The Cartoons cover was also featured in the Dance Dance Revolution series, starting with DDRMAX: Dance Dance Revolution 6thMIX (A loosely based song interpretated by Banya was also featured in the Pump It Up Dancing Game). It was also was performed on Alvin and the Chipmunks.
The song tells the story of a man who loved a woman who did not return the favor. Longing for her companionship the man went to see a witch doctor for advice in the situation. The wise man offered his advice saying "Oo ee, oo ah ah, ting tang, walla walla bing bang" (which is repeated four times as the chorus of the song). At the end of the song the man is sure that he will attract the attention he desires by repeating the wisdom given to him by the witch doctor.
It was also sung in Spanish by Manuel "El Loco" Valdes (Tin Tan's brother) in a movie.
The singing credits of the song went to David Seville who scored his first #1 hit on the Cash Box charts in 1958 and the single went on to sell over 1 million copies.
Danish pop band The Cartoons released a dance mix of the song in 1999.
Interestingly enough it was originally a Christmas Carol written for the first Chipmunks Christmas Special Spectacular 1953
