The Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) is an College Athletic Conference which competes in the NCAA's Division III. As the name implies, member teams are located in the state of Wisconsin, although there are three associate members from Minnesota. All full members are part of the University of Wisconsin System.

An organizational meeting of the Wisconsin State University Athletic Conference, then to be known as the State Normal Conference, was held in Madison in July of 1913. The two-fold purpose of this meeting was to secure for each school a schedule of games and to establish rules to regulate and control athletic competition within the proposed conference. The schools represented at the organizational meeting in 1913 were UW-Superior, UW-River Falls, UW-Stevens Point and UW-La Crosse, which were to become known as the Northern Division; with UW-Oshkosh, UW-Whitewater, UW-Milwaukee and UW-Platteville constituting the membership of the Southern Division.

UW-Stout became a member in 1914, and the first record of membership of UW-Eau Claire was in January 1917. These two, along with the original eight, maintained continuous membership over the years until June, 1964, at which time the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee terminated its membership in the conference.

The WIAC initiated women's competition on July 1, 1997, merging with the Wisconsin Women's Intercollegiate Conference which had been in place since 1970.

Additionally, Lawrence University is a wrestling only member. Winona State University, Gustavus Adolphus College and Hamline University are gymnastics only members.

Member teams field men's and women's teams in cross country, basketball, track and field, swimming and diving. Men's teams are field for baseball, football, ice hockey and wrestling. Women's teams are field for golf, gymnastics, soccer, softball, tennis and volleyball.
