Winter Derby
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Winter Derby is a Group 3 flat horse race in the United Kingdom for four-year-old and above thoroughbreds run over a distance of 1 mile 2 furlongs (2,012 metres) at Lingfield Park in mid March.
It was first run in 1998 and attained Group 3 status in 2006, thus becoming the earliest Pattern race in the British flat racing calendar.
It is the only British Pattern race to be regularly contested on an all-weather surface, although the first such race was the Silver Trophy Stakes when it was transferred to Lingfield from Ascot in July 2005.
