Winston is a city in Douglas County, Oregon, United States. The population was 4,613 at the 2000 census. It is home to Wildlife Safari.

Winston is located at 43°7′18″N, 123°25′3″W (43.121532, -123.417524)GR1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 5.5 km² (2.1 mi²), all land.

As of the censusGR2 of 2000, there were 4,613 people, 1,753 households, and 1,269 families residing in the city. The population density was 832.3/km² (2,152.5/mi²). There were 1,892 housing units at an average density of 341.4/km² (882.8/mi²). The racial makeup of the city was 94.58% White, 0.15% African American, 1.37% Native American, 0.52% Asian, 0.07% Pacific Islander, 1.24% from other races, and 2.08% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 2.84% of the population.

There were 1,753 households out of which 37.6% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 52.6% were married couples living together, 15.2% had a female householder with no husband present, and 27.6% were non-families. 21.8% of all households were made up of individuals and 9.8% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.61 and the average family size was 2.99.

In the city the population was spread out with 28.8% under the age of 18, 9.9% from 18 to 24, 26.6% from 25 to 44, 20.5% from 45 to 64, and 14.2% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 34 years. For every 100 females there were 93.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 87.3 males.

The median income for a household in the city was $28,939, and the median income for a family was $36,006. Males had a median income of $30,909 versus $18,555 for females. The per capita income for the city was $13,299. About 13.7% of families and 16.9% of the population were below the poverty line, including 24.8% of those under age 18 and 11.8% of those age 65 or over.

Winston, Oregon is home to the Winston-Dillard School District. The district consists of Douglas High School, Winston Middle School, Brockway Elementary, McGovern Elementary and Lookingglass Elementary. Tenmile Elementary School, located off of Highway 42, was recently closed due to a severe wave of budget cuts.[citation needed]
